The One Laptop Per Child Project (OLPC) plans to launch OLPC America in 2008 to distribute the low-cost laptop computers originally aimed at developing nations to needy students in the United States.

Ok cheap computers??! This needs to end now in the U.S. I can understand the need in other countrys for a 100 dollar laptop, but in the U.S?? This is just going to make the computer market go to s**t. Look like 70% of the average computer users use word processor, email, and surf the web a bit. But if you can do all that from a cheap laptop then 70% of people are just going to rely on thoughs laptops. THis is bad.

Bad for sales but very beneficial for us, specially us, the computer consumers.

I think it's a good idea for some, but I know my children will have a much better laptop then these 100$ browsers

btw I read the other day somewhere of 25$ laptops... the next version of the "$100" ones

That's a good idea, as students would benefit a lot from that in shaping up their future.

The OLPC Project is an idea that I'm fully behind, but what good will it do our students when our schools are constantly either shortening the class lengths, or in a few states shortening the school week down to 4 days (google it). The kids will have to teach themselves off the internet at home I suppose. Now there is a scary thought.
