For me, I found it was easier for me to put my layout, such as #wrapper, #content, etc., in on CSS file and the more general styles in another one. It makes it easier to use when building the next site. It also helps me when I give my id's and classes a fitting name, put them in the file in order of use on the page, and format the file for easy reading
I always check in FF first, then IE. Last Opera but if the other two work, it usually does too. Though I remember one time it didn't.

That's a good idea. I've set that up for some clients who wanted to be able to maintain their sites. I'll put all the structural css in one place with instructions and warnings not to touch and then the more presentational code in a different place with instructions how to make changes.
I've kind of been meaning to set up simple templates for myself. Most designs end up falling into one of a dozen or so different layouts and I've been meaning to have shells of each coded for a quick start on new projects.

I'm not really sure why these businesses continue to use IE other than thats the standard, but I find firefox much faster and even if its on corporate computers with no customizations they update security fixes much faster than IE does.

Businesses don't like wasting time keeping up with upgrades. That's why they use IE. Microsoft automatically updates it along with the rest of the operating system all at once. Firefox would require a lot more time to update across a company with hundreds of computers.

Yes but why in the world would a business install a second browser when they buy Windows? IE is already there and updates along with windows. Doesn't make much business sense to me. What is the business going to gain by installing Firefox?

I have to agree with you here because there's really no reason to install firefox too.

One thing a business could gain is being able to push out updates. At my company, IE is the corpoate browser. But everyone installs Firefox themselves. But, at least Firefox tells you when an update is available.

To me.. the only REAL value add for FireFox is the extensions..
Which of course are a beautiful thing.. I know you can extend IE 7 too, but it just doesn't have the community support behind it.
I don't think Firefox is that far off from major enterprise infiltration.. simply because more and more folks are using it at home and bring those preferences in with them.. particularly IT folks..
at least thats what ive seen.

The reality is at first glance you wont be able to tell the difference between the two browsers... its just personal preference. By the way i am a firefox user.

I downloaded latest upgrade of firefox and believe I wasn't that satisfied with it. I wasn't that comfortable with it with its new features. I like firefox so I downgraded back to 2. It might sound stupid huh ? c.davis

I far prefer Firefox over any other browser that I've previously had, ESPECIALLY IE6 (the bane of my LIFE!)
I have to say though, despite having something of a grudge against Microsoft, IE7 I found to be quite impressive, particularly in terms of the compatability issues that make IE6 so difficult to work with. Of course i have noticed a lot of similarities to FF now......
Not only that, but Live search has greatly improved recently, but again, there have been suggestions of similarities in the algorithm to Google....

Firefox is definitely the better browser, IMO, and standard-compliant as measured by the written standards. It is not a coincidence that sites usually display the same in Opera, Safari, and Firefox, but if they break, more often than not, they break in IE.
However, the mere fact that it is a great browser that obeys standards is not the reason alone that it is the web-debugging tool of choice (I promise you that even the folks at Microsoft are using it for debugging). The reason it is great for debugging is because of how extensible it is, and can be summed up in one word: Firebug. Nothing as complete as Firebug can be found on the other browsers. IE has the IE Developer toolbar, which has a similar inspector, but doesn't allow live updating of the content. Safari's toolkit is similarly inadequate (in fact I haven't even been able to make it work on Vista). I'm not sure about Opera, but I know it doesn't have anything as powerful as Firebug.
And it's not just Firebug, Firefox has tons of development-helper extensions, like SEO Quake, and the Web Developer's toolbar. There are also color-pickers, screen-shot takers, and many other goodies. Unless any of the other browsers choose a format that allows them to be as extensible as Firefox, they will never be the developer's tool of choice.

That's my reason for using it too. The general idea of building a stripped down browser and then letting each of us decide what we want is the right one. Youe Firefox ends up different than mine, but we both like it.
Of course news broke today that Google is working on its own browser called Google Chrome.

Yeah, I've been reading about Google Chrome today, and found this interesting discussion about it on John Resig's blog: http://ejohn.org/blog/google-chrome-process-manager/

Google Chrome is now available. It's still in beta and you can find it here.
