Well not really, If you are posting there for the right reasons it won't bother anyone.

<disclaimer>
Not that there are any right reasons for requesting a link exchange.

If you dont like people requesting link exchanges why have the category for it?

And of course it bothers me even though I am doing it for the right reasons IMO, When I am looking to get links from directorys or link exchnages then I want to be able to do it as quick as possiable (Time is money), I dont want to have to copy and paste the URL everytime.

What do you mean it makes spamming?

Like I say if you dont like the idea of link exchanges or directory advertising then why have that section on the forum?

It is the main reason I use webmaster forums for finding other sites to exchange links with or to find directory to submit to. Granted it is also handy if you need some help with any other web design issues but I use another forum which is brilliant with that side of things already.

I use Digital Point forums which is brilliant for internet marketing (Link exchnages, directories, search engines and adsence) side of things and they dont have poblems with spamming, well saying that posting directorys and sites on a forum is spamming I suppose, but then as I say why have that section in your forum then?
Reveiw sections are just the same too.

Aslong as there are idiots out there that sign up on a forum to post a link as an advert and then never to be seen again you will never beat spam but I think aslong as you give the oppertunites to those who are genuine users at leat your making the most of it.

By making your links not live in these sections your making them not work I see nobody really uses the directory submission or link exchnage section on this forum.

You would be better getting rid of it rather than having it doing what it is IMO.

If you look at Digital Point forums the directory section and the link exchnage section is booming. Well the whole site is but I am just trying to show that there is a big need for the link exchange and directory submission side of things.

Also you carnt care about spam that much cos you got adsence here there and everywhere. Good job I use Firefox with Adblocker cos I hate Adsence more than I hate forum spammers.

So you don't stick around and answer other members queries then? You simply use the forum as a source of links etc then?
Sort of makes my point a little more don't you think?

Hmm! there is Adsense in exactly the same place at DigitalPoint as well!!!
But what's adsense got to do with it. This forum also runs an Adsense sharing scheme so members who post on a regular basis and have joined the scheme, benefit in some small way from participating.

Frankly I'm not seeing what your complaint is. It must take well, all of 2 seconds to copy and paste the URL.
It's simply a means of reducing the link dropping while still retaining the forum for the members who use it. If it means that people who would only sign up for collecting links rather than becoming a useful member don't bother then so be it.
Using the number of members as a means of deciding how good a forum will be is about as much use as looking at the toolbar PR as a measure of how good a site is.
It's the active members and their post counts that mean something, not the "I pop in occasionally and leave a link" members.

I am not complaining for starters I was asking about it thats all as I would have prefered to have live links in these cartegorys.

Yes I do make other post other than just looking for link exchanges and directorys if you had looked at my posts since I had started you would see this, instead of making judgements on me. I do enjoy being able to help out other when I can and also then when help is needed in return people are able to normally help you out when needed. That is the joy of using these forums.

The idea of this section is to make suggestions I was only asking why you have make links not live in certain sections as it make life more difficult.

I was not attacking this forum as I think you have taken this thread, if it was so bad I would not use it. Which after your last responce I wont be. There are plenty of other webmaster forum out there and I should hope that most of them are a little nice when it come to making suggestions on how it could possiably work better for there users.

Yes Digital Point also have adsence in exactly the same place but then there dont use the excuse of spam for making links not live in certain sections.

Now come on, you joined this forum on the 21st of May and one of the first posts you make is to start this thread. Now if you had a longer history with the forum your comments would have been taken in a different context.

In case it has escaped your attention, Google, the reason why there is always a ill-conceived idea that more and more links to anybody and everybody are a "good thing" may also decide at some point in the future it's not a good thing for this forum to be linking out to some of the sites that people request links to.

Real spam BTW is a moderation issue and is always dealt with promptly.

And I'm still baffled how you equate using Adsense to generate some revenue for the forum and disabling live linking on two forums

You're suggestion is noted of course. We always consider suggestions (even if we don't reply to the threads), so don't think it's a lost cause.

We don't think non-active links deteriorates the forum experience for those who want to use it as a legitimate resource. So I can say with some certainty that the forums will remain. It is simply a solution to balance the content posted in these forums with its usefulness to the community as a whole. We always review our policies, and your complaints will of course be taken into account.

Also: I don't believe anyone is 'attacking'. It is hard to inject the correct emotion into pure text and have it received the same way by everyone. When suggestions are discussed, most people (from my experience) set themselves into Defense Mode. Just try and read this thread like any other discussion or debate.
