I guess this is more of a rant than anything else. But it's REALLY annoying when people don't read the rules before posting their site for review...

But what's more annoying than that, is when people post feedback! Even after a Mod (or some of us lowly users) point out specifically what the rules state, people post comments and reviews. This IMO just encourages people to break the rules.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.

Rant over.

Yes, I agree with you Priss. I'm not sure why some members continue to review a site after someone else has pointed out that the rules were not followed.

I wish there was an easier way to deal with that forum. Maybe I'll have to get more strict and immediately delete a post that has not followed the rules.

I agree with the both of you! I myself would like to do more site reviews, but I like most of the sites I see. I would comment on special effects but most sites use flash if they have any special effects. I have Macromania flash, dreamweaver, just haven't taken the time do anything more than just play with them. I spend most of my time working on video. Publishing DVDs of home movies and creating special effects for them. When I come across a site that I think I can help on, you will hear from me.

Not to be different or anything.. but I think that rule is pretty annoying in itself. When people come to get a site reviewed, they have to comment on three other sites which have all been commented on multiple times already. I understand that you're just trying to make sure that everyone is properly reviewed, but this is a little overboard.. maybe a one to one rule would be better?

Usually one review is sufficient to get anyone back to work on improving their site, if the reviewer follows the guidlines for reviews.

Before the rules we had the majority of new members asking for a review without reviewing ANY sites. As well you had 1 post posters just looking for a little bit of traffic and nothing else.

This rules makes those kind of members get involved at least a little bit. Why should you expect other members to take the time to review your site, if you can't take the time yourself?

The moderators don't have time to review every site posted and this helps get members involved.

This also helps so that each post in most cases will get a minimum of three reviews and less posts are overlooked.

I would consider changing it to 2 reviews required based on other members input however.

I do thank you for your input iqchicken wether positive or negative

I agree. I do think it's only fair to contribute to the community. I think it's greedy (and arrogant in some cases) of people to ask others to take time to review their site so they can make it better, but not offer any kind of input in return to help other people make their sites better.

I don't think the 3:1 ratio is asking for too much. It's not dissimilar to the hosting forum asking to make at least 15 posts before posting an ad for a hosting company. Of course, reviews *should* require more time and attention, so the required post count is obviously lower.

How else would a community grow if people only take, take, take and not give in return?

Another point:

It was mentioned that one review is sufficient to get anyone back to work on improving their site, if the reviewer follows the guidlines for reviews. That may be true with a lot of the reviews, but remember that some parts are opinions of the reviewer. Since we each have different opinions, it's very good to get multiple reviews.

One person may say that a "look" is not appealing when in fact the majority of people think it's great.

Okay, just food for thought.

*sigh*

I hate rules. And what I hate more than that is the fact that we need them. If everyone was generous with their input and reviews then we wouldn't need the rule. I guess I'm just oblivious to the fact that some people are greedy little b*******.

Not really, I say to each his or her own. Everyone has thier own talent and taste. Prissed I like your site the way it is and don't think special effects would add anything to your site. I just wish I knew as much about css and php as you do!
