I recently installed a smilie extension to FF and tried (unsuccessfully I might add), to insert a smilie from FF into a post. Is it possible to insert these smilies into posts, or are all but the provided smilies verboten?

For that to work two things would need to be in place.
1. The image would have to be somewhere accessable to everyone on the internet (a server)
2, The forum would have to allow inline images which would be displayed as images in the browser, it dosn't.

Im not entirely sure what the plugin does, But i would guess it replaces patters of letters, numbers and symbols it finds on a page with an image which would only be visible in your browser..

I'm not sure what smilies are included in that plugin. They are probably the default etc., which should work here. Note that the textual representations of the smilies will be shown to you in the WYSIWYG editor until they are parsed and replaced with real images.
