I've noticed that when somebody posts to the Confidential Talk forum, I get a new post flag on that forum, even though when I go to it, it says there have been no new posts for thirty days or something. Anway, I think maybe we should only have it show new message flags if there is one, rather than if somebody else posted there. Wow.... I don't think that made any sense, but hopefully you get the idea.

I'll look into this now. I'm not sure if it is a limitation of the feature (ie: it would create too much overhead to fix it) or a software bug.

It's not a threat to anyone's anonymity when posting there, just an annoyance. No last-post details are showed, and it doesn't show up in the "New Posts" page or search.

I couldn't find anything of value when looking into it, so I have submitted a bug and we'll see what the developers think.

As I thought. The only way to fix this is to actually find the last post of each individual forum, which would create considerable overhead.

However, my bug was filed under "Design Issues" (instead of say, "Won't Fix" or "Working as Designed") which makes me think they might come up with something.

is it not just as simple as adding and extra condition in the query? and comparying to the user visiting?

No. You'd have to get the last post details.
