Hi Dave,

I know many complain about the rep sytems being used out there but I honestly think it is very helpful in the long run.

I see a webmaster forum as a "mixer" in that it is a great place to get information, find ideas, work deals, provide products and services, and network with others.

With that being said it is good to know who has been good in business transactions. For example, I would like to know if person "A" paid person "B" when they agreed on a service. This would help me make a decision on whether or not to go through with the same.

I could be alone on this but I just really dig the idea as it lets everyone know who has obtained respect as an honest person and who has not.

Just a thought.

Eric

This has been talked about before. I personally, am all for it. I think it is a great idea. But, like anything else, it can be abused. People with give others a bad rating which in turn lead to flame wars or whatever.

But then again, we tend to attract a mature crowd to these forums, so I'm not sure how big of a problem it really would cause.

Good point. Could you not set it so that it would be much harder to get bad rep than good? That is what I have seen in other forums and believe it or not it actually works quite well.

Thanks for the suggestion, Eric. I think it is a good idea, as long as we can prevent it from being abused. I'll dig up the ol' thread on it, too. We may have some good info in it.

Dave I could be alone on the thought.

It's just that I spend a decent amount of money around here and would like to know that others have had good experiences. So far I have only been burned for $15.00 here over the sale of a link so it hasnt been bad yet. A rep system usually solves this problem.

You're not alone on the thought of using the Reputation System. The Forum Leaders are also discussing this.

The main thing is that if enabled, it will be disabled if abused. However, with the proper instruction and with our good members, I don't think that will abuse will be a problem.

If anyone has ideas about the system, please make sure that you suggest them now. Thanks.

First idea would be ban all threads about rep

It gets old. There should be one long sticky about the rep system and how it works. It sucks having to see a ton of threads on "why did I get this?" and "I dont agree with this" or "how does the rep system work".

Oh and another thing, is there a hack that would require you to have your user name attached to bad rep?

At DP, members leave bad rep all the time over something they disagree with because they can hide identity by not signing it. I think that would cut down on the BS bad rep.

Another hack would be to not allow members to give negative ratings. If there is nothing good to say about another, then no rating is given. That would cut out the misuse of negative ratings. The only negative might be given by Forum Leaders when there has been some problem.
