Topics Marked As Read

I get really annoyed with this site in that sometimes i'll be reading a thread and then 10 to 15 minutes later ill move back out into the list of topics and it will appear as if i read them all. you must have it set as a time thing or a last visit thing to have it mark all topics as read. maybe im just not familiar with the forum software to know how to fix the problem. but it would be a lot nicer if they stayed marked as unread until i read them.

I thought it was just me going mad.

Im pretty fed up with it aswell.

There is no way to keep track of the exact messages you have read (beacause that would be too server extensive if we stored it in the database, or too many cookies being stored on your computer), so vB goes by your last visit. If your inactive for 10 minutes (what is called the "timeout period"), then your last visit time is updated.

So there's the explanation, incase you were curious

Anyway, I've just set the timeout period to half an hour. Any longer will be impractical (the timeout affects things other then the post markers). Hopefully that will reduce the problem.

thanks. im hoping that will work better for me. still not ideal, but better.
