The new banner ads on the top of the pages are driving me crazy. Every single time I load a new page it expands on its own and I can't read the thread until I exit out of it. And then if I accidentally move my mouse near it, it happens again.

Is this how it's going to be from now on?

As far as I know the ads haven't changed. The next time you see one that expands could you grab the name of the company in the ad and post it here so we know specifically which ads are causing the problem.

What you're describing hasn't happened to me, but it's possible I just haven't come across the same ad yet.

Hmm...that's weird. Because they're all doing it for me and I just noticed it today. But I think they might even all be for the same company. The one that's there now is "Hostway Global Web Solutions."

You don't have to see any of them if you use this:

I'm assuming this is only for Firefox though, right? Unfortunately I'm using Safari...

Oh, in that case then I'd look into something like this:
http://www.floppymoose.com/

Just something to try out.

I came down here to make the same complaint. Thankfully someone else already made it.
Companies are HostWay and Gate
James, is there a plugin like that for Chrome?

For Chrome? I'd probably take a look at this:

I was gonna say something about this but I didn't want to complain. But I'm going to say something now... they are driving me crazy too! Even if I don't run my mouse over them they still push their way over onto what I'm reading and you always have to click "close", arrrg!

Maybe that's why I don't see the ads. I have Click to Flash installed for Safari and I haven't looked at WT in anything other than Safari the last few days. As the name implies in order for flash to run I have to click it first When I do click some of the ads don't see the expanding part though.

I just caught the ad in a different browser and I see what you mean. I'll mention it to those that have the ability to do something about it. They are annoying.

LOL. Ok, it *isn't* just me.

Been dodging that annoying expanding Hostway Global Web banner since arriving, wondering... "Do these guys put up with this all the time?" Kudos for those that suggested software that disables them... but it seems like getting rid of that banner is a more user friendly solution. That thing will drive people out of a room.

ADDED: The nature of my job (it includes reviewing a lot of websites) precludes me from using add-ons that make sites appear in a different form than they would to the average user. I read/participate in forums on & off thru the workday, a quick break to cleanse the mental palate.

This ad appears to abuse its privs... if you purchase a banner ad of a certain dimension... having it expand (unbidden) to multiple times that size is inappropriate.

The issue with the banners is being worked on. It may take a few days to get rid of the offending banners so please be patient. But do know it's being worked on and they should be gone before too long.

Some of the banners are still taking up the screen...especially the Castrol Motor Oil banner.. when you roll over it, it takes up like half of the screen...

Oh yeah. That is annoying. I never seem them since I have a flash blocker in my browser. I have to click on any flash application before it will run.
