some suggestions

I got a couple of suggestions:
-why if the chat werent just for members of WT, what if Guests can come in and out of chat. They can use a temporary name like Guest0819 and they will have something there to tell them to register.
-you could also make the chat a little more interesting if you add chat topics and stuff to it
-moderators would help to the chat
--------------------------------------------------
other suggestions: non related to chat:
-there seems to be too many virgin talkers, it would be better if to enter a few of the forums you need at least 1 post, if not you cannot just 'lurk'.
-the WT tips and tricks should be strictly for those who post only, maybe a hack were if you havent posted for lets say a month, it wont let you in.
-my last suggestion is...the other site review forum or webdesign help forum, we need one of those becaus site review seems to be crowding up like ive mentioned before.
well thanks for reading,
-Josh

with any forums, theres always going to be loads of people lurking and signing up and never posting - its the nature of the forum
i think its a good idea to make some rooms for members with a certain number of posts but this could be abused by members posting lots of meaningless posts to increase their postcount and will not bring anything consructive to the site

Thanks for the great suggestions Ghetto. We will see what we can do.
At the moment, the Tips and Tricks forum and the Site Suggestion forum (posts within) are only viewable by registered members.
If you logout, you should not be able to see the posts in those two forums.

yea i know that, like you cant also make a new thread in announcements unless you have 900 posts. I can already
i realize that the tips and tricks is only viewable by members, but people will just sign up and never post. so maybe a post count of 5 is necessary to at least view the forum. I think that by 5 posts, people will really get into the forum. Seemed to have worked on me
well thanks for hearing out my suggestions anyways. and thanks for the replies.
Cheers
-Josh

the principal behind the "exclusive" forum, is that its available for members. it encourages them to sign up. if they have to sign up AND post, then we'll loose many people.
the curiosity of what lies within that forum is what makes alot of people sign up. if you can see through a window, you don't go into a room. if the room is a mystery, you'll open the door. if you can't see into the room, but you know you've got to open the door, then tightrope walk half way down the landing, then you'll probably leave the room alone and go look for something else to do...make sense?
keep the forum to members only, its good how it is now.
the announcements forum...900 posts hey? shouldn't that be mods + admins only? would make more sense to have it like that...or if you want it to be available to the "usual" members, lower the count to say 400, so those that have been here a while can post, not just the ellusive top end of about 4 people.
we could do with some sort of division in the review forum. it does fill up very very quickly. perhaps a developing sites review and a completed sites review. thus, people who want a specific page looking at can get ideas, people who need help with something small can get help, and people who want their site seriously consider prior to launch can get an in-depth review.
just some things to consider there guys...

We've been discussing that and that's a really good idea on how to separate the reviews. Some reviews are needed for developing sites, some are wanted to apply for the award.

so far ive seen very little people who apply for the award, ive actually seen 0.
I think we just need 2 separate site review forums. so there will be less moving threads.
one Site review for actualy reviews, complete reviews that follow WT review guidelines.
the other forum for small changes, like Site Suggestions. stuff like that.

I like the idea of "Site Suggestions" - submit your site for ideas and changes before it is released
and then "Site Review" - Get ideas on how to change your site for a revamp and an eventual relaunch
So its basically pre-launch and post-change...make sense to anyone?
Then just let people submit for the award as they can do at the moment. are the award site figures that people have given the sites available to the public? because i know if i were submitting my site, then i wouldn't want everyone else knowing how i was marked...i'd just want to know whether or not i'd been given the award, and if not, what i could do to improve before resubmission...
just some fresh perspective...

The site review was set up to help people with their sites. It later grew into a place where the admin team could give an award to a site meeting the criteria, but this was a extra to the review section.
It continued to grow until members were wanting help with changes and not even thinking about an award.
The award is just an extra for finished sites that get reviewed and meet the criteria.
For a refresher, click here.
Any member site submitted for review is eligible for the WT Forums Webmaster Excellence Award...
The purpose of the Site Review is not to win an award, but to help the various webmasters to help each other in site improvements. However, the award is a FREE service and is presented to those sites whose web design, originality and content have achieved levels of excellence deserving of recognition.
I think those are excellent ideas, a forum for Site Suggestions and Site Review.

Yes, they are available since the reviews, along with the rating system, are given in the replies.

ah righty....just wondering about that.
cause i dunno if everyone would want people to see the ratings they'd been given. if you wanted, could you submit your site via PM for review, and get the results PM'd back to you?
cause i know i, and probably a few other people, would prefer that to a "public enquiry" over the state of their sites.
just some ideas...

yes, some people have PM me before asking for a review.
its a good idea to do that if you really dont want to ask for a review publically and keep it private.

As of this time, we are set up that any review for an award would be public. But remember, when we set up the criteria and the numbering system, we advised members not to give a number if it's gonna be very low. Give the review and skip the number. In cases like that, I usually PM the member with the number.
Would you suggest that members could have a private review for the WT award? I don't know if I would agree with that, but that doesn't mean you can't suggest it.
And I've also had members PM me for private reviews, but this is between them and me, and they were not considered for an award because it was private.

personally, I'd love to have suggestions for my site, but I'm a newbie and most of what you'd tell me would be over my head. I think Pm reviews would be better cause then everyone wouldn't be flaming me

Hopefully, no one would flame you. If they did, we would probably edit or delete the posts.
I can understand that some would rather have a private review and the suggestion is taken. We'll discuss it.
Anyone else on private or PM reviews?
