Hey, It seems like no one is ever in chat, even through it would be a great asset. Perhaps the admin can set like 2-3 times per night when anyone who is on the site is suggested to go the chat?

Like open chat hours, huh? Sounds like a good idea.
It would be nice to have a hack that would tell when someone was in the chat, but I don't think there's one available like that at this time.
There are several of us that have used it, but not at any certain times.
Since we have members all around the world, does anyone have suggested times for meeting in the chatroom? Make it easy on Dave and put it in EST, hehe.

If we can come up with a hack, that woud be great.
Not a bad suggestion for a "meeting time."
Like Dave said, anymore suggestions on a time?

Well, There doesnt have to be one specific time, And perhaps you can try to setup a seperate forum software that doesnt have to be intergreted with the forum, at least then we would be able to know how many people were in the chat. And it can be certain times of the day-
Like
3:00PM Eastern
8:00PM-10:00PM Eastern.
And perhaps people could try to stay in chat even after they leave website?

another suggestion, the chat room maybe should get a BOT where the BOT greets the user who just logged in by his screen name and also provides a list of services. Dont know if it can be done easily but I think its a good idea.
Also, WT should promote more often the chat room, I always seem to find it empty when I go in.
If a couple of BOTS where there then maybe a few people will go there more often to ask the BOTS questions they may have.

promoting the chat room is definately a good idea.
bots could be useful, but they would be VERY difficult to set up if you wanted to program them to answer questions. far better to just identify a time each nite or something where users meet in the room to talk "face2face." having a thriving chat room community can only be beneficial to the forum.
the site review. perhaps we should have a closed forum where the sites submitted for the award are reviewed by the panel of judges. thus people can see what has been submitted, have a look for themselves, and take ideas from the judges to incorporate and help with their own sites

Actually, DMo v.2.24 is a Bot. He's programed to act responsibly and to give honest and intelligent answers. There must be a bug in the software since the artifical intelligence portion of the system is always growing, but sometimes stalls out.
When the system stalls, the internal program, Sarcasm v.1.01 and Rhetoric v.1.20, take over so that a sufficient reply is given to the posts and the Bot appears to be human.
You can actually say and do whatever you like to him and the members because the emotion module has been omitted. However, his programmed defense, Virtual Scissors v.4.2, then starts and the offender can expect serious repurcussions.
This has been a recorded response. Thank you for your time.
Dave
Still waiting on a vB hack that shows when people are in the chat room......

alright there dave, don't get ya circuits in a knot.
chopper, any ideas on where we can get a chat popularity display hack? anything that could be added into the coding? say something that would give us information in an iFrame or something to tell us when the room is populated?

that will be a great idea, also we can have live fridays or something like that, every friday webmasters can meet to get faster responses to questions they may have.
chat can also be used for meetings and stuff. the Chat is a great tool its just not being used now, hopefully we will soon.

Only problem I can see with the idea of scheduled chats is that we're all (mostly) in different timezones. Half of us seem to be in the UK, so a nice evening chat for you Americans will be about 2am... similarly, a nice evening chat for us would be during the afternoon for you...... Hmm....

you got a point david...maybe we can make it a time where its not 2am for anyone...I dont know.
My timezone is -5.00 newyork timezone. I guess when its 8pm in the UK its like 10am here. That sounds reasonable.

i'm working at +5 hours to EDT. I'm on GMT, cause I'm in the country that INVENTED time...apparently.
if people came online when they got home from work, what time would that be? 5pm, 6pm? I could manage starting at any time up to about 11:30pm GMT, which is 6:30pm EDT. I think its better on a friday rather than on a weekday, because then theres no threat of being exhausted the next day in school...cause some of us still go to school
so what about it? we need a time and a day, and thats about it.
still waiting for any word on that "chat room population iFrame" idea...anyone?

Yeah well I got you both beat.
Try being the alarm clock for someone who needs to wake up at 3:45am...
In fact, as such I was up all night last night and still have not had any sleep. It is now 12 minutes to 5pm.

sleep...theres a distant memory. i get up at 6:50am...sometimes its still dark.
i'm on a bus by 7:50...am again. school all day, i work, i slave, i panic alot, then i'm home, not before 4:15, its a hard life init? i slave all evening doing work, listening to MJ, and RBF, and then i sleep, from about 10:15 onwards.
life is hard when you're still in school, and holding down a job, and trying to assert an internet presence, it all takes its toll!!
