how about this...
spam posts consequences

30 hand
40 arm
50 both legs

I think the Spammer's Forum might be the best route. It is probably a great idea to remove the spammer's post count everytime they spam (that's in addition to removing their urls when their post is put in the Spammer's Forum.
I thought the admins were supposed to have more posts.

So if I posted a lot to increase my post count I would be considered a spammer?
FYI, I do post a lot to increase my post count. Not all of it is meaningful like in the jokes forum etc.
Do I think I am a spammer? Well, on some forums, most definitely yes. I didn't end up as a head of the Spam Squad on another forurm for nothing
However, I really object to the term spamming because someone may be posting what is on their mind in a thread and to them it is valid.
Who is to judge whether it is spam or not? What if they are wrong? Then all you do is drive people away because a valid thought they posted was defined as spam by someone else.

That is a bit harsh don't you think??

well i consider if the person is advertising or just posting up messages like "hi" or "sdkjfhsdkjf" or "ok" then that is considered a spam. You just dont post something saying "thanks", that will just be posting to raise your count. I dont think you should be so harsh about it but maybe a few warnings and stuff but if they continue to just post for the hell of it and advertising here then i definitely think they should go up in the Hall of Shame.
They should be listed if they are just here to screw it for everyone else.

no offence was meant Drach. The idea is that people who post affiliated links with no relevance to topics, or write messages of a few words, or add things that are not required. people that abuse the system basically.
you should not in any way be penalised for posting frequently, frequent postings boost the board content and are very beneficial to the community.
the idea is that those who abuse it...loose it, getting their posts reset to 0 and their name in the spam house

I agree with both sides of this discussion in some points. If someone is posting their thoughts/feelings/etc., then it isn't really spamming even if it's a "Thank you" reply. They might be polite and responding. However, I have seen posts that say "I don't like it" with nothing else (or something of that nature) and it adds nothing to the thread. Even though I don't call it spam, it was one of those meaningless posts that could have been left out.
IMO, spam in this forum is usually posts that are only ads and nothing else.
Dave
Added later: Have you ever wondered why some people will post a message right after their own message? I know you can't edit your posts on some forums, but you can on vBulletin forums so why do that? Just a thought........makes you go hmmmm.......
Added later, later: Chief makes a good point about the timing of posting after yourself. If it's immediately after your last post, was it necessary? It could be necessary when you have something to add later on. See Chief's reply below.
I just had to do that to this post. But I might be drain bamaged too. Hehe!

ive found that a lot of the time with vb forums when you got to edit it it will not let you submit it so you have no choice but to choose again

The reason I have sometimes replied after some of my posts is because if you edit it, it does not show up as new and members might not think anything is new in that thread. I would agree though that editting is usually all that is needed (especially if you notice the mistake right after posting it).

Yeah I know about those "I don't like it" posts. I don't like it because... would have been acceptable though.
As to why posting right after they posted a message...
I do that when I am quoting different people. Sometimes I find myself playing catch up like today when I was sick and not around much.
It is easier to quote each reply you have a response to seperately than to try to fit them all in one message. Especially if you have a lot of replies you wish to respond to.

Hi Drache,
I agree. I might quote each reply separately sometimes, rather than stuff everything in the same thread. However, I sometimes manually type in the quote tags and quote multiple users within the same reply. I guess I do a bit of both.
I think Dave was referring to the fact that some people make consecutive short replies (where an edit would be most appropriate) like this sequence of posts:
"let me check it out for you"
"yeah, that's right"
"hope this helps"
I would consider that spamming as well, since a) two of those posts are meaningless; b) they could have all been combined into one post.
Another way to "secretly" boost your post count is to write brief, meaningless messages like "yeah, I agree", "nope", or as you guys mentioned "I don't like it."

Well that makes sense. Okay, there are some acceptable reasons to do that, I concur.
You know, if you're the slightest bit interested in just about anything here, then it's actually easy to get your post count up without even trying to do that. The reason, you'll be entering into conversations because you're interested, and that will cause people to have meaningful posts (or at least it should).
So all you members out there, keep on contributing to the forum!!! And remember that asking questions is also a contribution. We might all learn something from the various answers.
We have a great bunch of contributors here!
