Yes i have tried using twitter once in awhile. Its a lot of fun meeting new people, if you know what i mean, but still I am satisfied with how twitter goes. And I am happy about it.

I have a twitter account, but I dont use it. And to be honest, I dont see a real need in it.

I have several blogs, and a couple of forums. If I have something to say, I will post it on one of my blogs or forums. That way I'am building content on my sites. Instead of posting something on twitter and building content there.

Twitter is a great tool for just sending out simple messages and stuff. Good way to get ppl to look at blog posts and stuff

That was how I thought about it too when I first heard about Twitter. It seemed like it was redundant, when you can post what you want to say directly on your blog. But then after a while I realized that you don't use it to say what you would normally blog about, you use it to say things in addition to your blog entries, to promote or expand upon them. And you use it engage with others in dialog, which can help blogging in many different ways.

Twitter can be useful for SEO if done properly. As with on-site optimization, if the content you're linking to is useful / relevant, mentioning it on Twitter isn't a bad thing. However, since many links are shortened, it's best to correctly describe the links (rather than just posting links). As un1tek84 nicely put it,

Also, links to your own site(s) shouldn't be the only purpose for using twitter, because, as others have pointed out, it's easy to spot and discourages followers.

I was skeptical about it at first, but when I signed up and started getting targeted followers my opinions about it soon changed as Twitter become a major source of traffic to my websites.

I use it for this purpose, to microblog as it's called. I can write about topics I'm interested in without writing full-length blog posts. And because it is on the Twitter platform, more people can view it shortly after it's posted, and send you direct feedback on it.
