Just thought I'd share this.

The math is pretty straightforward, for the most part.

I'm not sure how accurate it will be, especially given it's date. And it's not the most important thing to know how PR is calculated even if it were…

However I think papers like this are a good read just to give a sense of the kind of things that go into the calculation. The specific number crunching might not be so important, but an understanding of the thought process behind everything can be.

Thanks for the link.

Why not just read the ORIGINAL PR documents?

The math is pretty straightforward,
Not when you are dealing with multi-TRILLIONS of interconnected nodes.

In 2008 Google hit the 1 trillion indexed URLs that's one million million in the American "short" scale, and was growing at an approximate rate of several billion a day (1,000 million short scale).

If only 1/10 of one percent of those pages link to each other there are tens of trillions of nodes to calculate. And don't forget that the total value of ALL (REAL) PageRank that flows in the entire network is 1 (one).

Now that's some pretty tiny values.

More than I wanted to know about PageRank

Not enough of what would be nice to know about the rest of the ranking algo.

You might want to have a look at this one - goo[dot]gl/dpYrc

Lets have a real link to that

http://alumni.cs.ucsb.edu/~panda/pub...s/acmmm_06.pdf Note it is a PDF.

Be careful when reading it and surmising that it relates 100% to Google's post Panda algorithm.

Google's engineers publish lots of papers and Google register a lot of intellectual property patents for methods they have developed and ideas that they have. Just because it is patented and/or published by Google does NOT mean they actually use the method described in their algorithm.

The classic case is the "domain age" myth. It started after Google filed a patent for using historical data as a scoring system for documents and every "SEO expert" promptly declared that it had become an "important factor" overnight.
