I have a site in the same industry and can't figure out why this guy is on number one for everything when I look at his backlinks in google they aren't valuable or anything so how is he number one? He doesn't have tons of great content either/

Well it isn't the photos of the pools.
Why because ours our better and well, we have more back links.
So I can't figure out what he's doing I go on alexa and all he has is url spam for the most part as back links. Can someone give me a stategy to get a better placement..
Plus I should tell you that we have more photos. and more pages on our site. So what is this guy doing that's making him so big. He lost half his back links in about a month...
I want a placement like his can anyone make any suggestions?

Stop counting links because you will learn nothing useful at all, and start getting links for the right reason.

Oh! and stop "rank checking" because you will NEVER see a true picture of what is actually in the results due to you searching like a "rank checker" NOT a real user.

I want his position he's number one on every possible keyword. Most his links are from scripts like add your image gallery here and he has it linked to his website. It's not even related he just took advantage of somones script.
Could someone please explain the science?
and ps anyone ever heard of scapebox?

Because what matters, the user or the rank? Which can be a conversion?

"related" is for people NOT search engines.

Just because it is #1 for you doesn't mean it is for everyone or even anyone else. The result you see are biased because you will be searching for the same words and phrases over and over and over again.

Beautiful photographs of swimming pools as well, you are right!

I am looking at this from a different point of view, you have competition with this company, they have been established since 1952, a very old established business and have expanded into other states and cities in California. They have been established way before the internet, there business was promoted with advertising and word to mouth, no doubt have an excellent business rating.

The information came from their "About Us" page. Maybe some of the Google Executives had a pool built by this company.....

Tony's right, blogging about celebrities pools you have built could be a negative for some people. There are a percentage of people that would want a pool built just like some celebrity had, and other people could care less, they would want their pool to be unique, different, and better, that's just human nature.

Blogging could be another way of promoting more information on the pools, such as construction material, estimated time, different types of landscaping, different types of lighting, etc., there's many directions you could go in.

My thoughts aren't on page rank or SEO, but on offline business promotion. The web pages are just a bonus, where people can see what you are offering in their leisure time, and then get motivated to give you a call....

Exactly. Your website is just one of many tools you should be using for promoting your business. Sure it's one of the more important ones as you can provide mass amounts of information very fast and very cheap, but there's more to a business than the website.

I bring in ~60 from other means of advertising in which the website is not involved.
