I prefer having hosting in the same country I live in, just from a support and payment standpoint. But when checking out any hosting, just make sure they have a proven record and that you're getting a good price.

If USA datacenter loads slower than european, your SEO will be hurt in the US. With a server in the UK, the load time in the USA will be a bit slower than in the europe.
