There is not any other way to rank your site in search engine Only SEO and link building to improve visibility of your website in Google. There are allot of SEO techniques, But i mostly use Social book marking, Press release, Article directories, Forums posting and blog commenting to generate traffic and back links as well.

I think the benefit of SEO can be summed up into two words, back links. Back links are then turned into leads, and leads are turned into potential customers, and potential customers are then turned into actual customers.
