It is always been discussed in forums. We mostly prefer Do follow links ofcourse but do not reject no follow links also especially if they are from reputed sites. It works a lot in driving traffic.

Links should always be a mixture of both type of links.

I do wish people viewing a thread after a reply like this would take the hint and not trot out their reflexive waffle.

Do follow links are countable by the search engines. meaning they will "flow" the power of the link to your linked content. Do Follow is the best way to increse the link building process.

No follow and do follow both are attribute a link which instruct search engine spider which links need to pass the value(PR) and which is not. This link attribute is very important in SEO because all search engine consider its and on that basis they follow the page and distribute the page rank.
Do Follow - If a link has do follow link attribute then it is instructing a spider that pass the value(PR) of the page to this link, which helps to get the PR for the linking website.
No Follow - If a website has no follow link then it is instructing a spider that do not pass any value(PR) of the page to this link but these links can help to generate the traffic if your linking to a high traffic websites.

Of course you are referring to Google...
Or do you mean ...all SEs?

Yah.. i am talking about Google here, Google is the only search engine which distribute PR to all websites on the web and if you are getting PR from the Do follow back links then these(Values) PR will definitely added into your website PR and these links are also counted as the quality links which help to appear into the top of the SERPs.

I wish somebody would explain to me the common sense in chasing links that might get "rankings" in search engine to send traffic while ignoring links that might actually send traffic directly.

Most of the hits to my personal websites and my customer's websites come from links, not Google.
My analytics say 80% of my hits come from referrals and 20% come from Google (80% of my hits from Google are for the name of that website too.)

If any of those referrals are clicking a nofollow link you're supposed to send them back, I think.

I was being a little facetious to emphasise the point about traffic direct from links.

Something that doesn't exist is useful for SEO, huh? Now we've expanded into whole doo-doo follow SITES, not just links! Hey, if you're going to make crap up, think big.
Gotta love these flypaper threads.
Quality traffic we're getting here, ah but consider the original post. I can't believe this is actually picking up serious debate.

Do follow link is better, search engine can index them directly and get them as your backlink source. Whie No follow link is not unuseful, it can still get some postive effect to your SEO process and bring traffic to your site.

Another nonsense post, right after it was explicitly stated, "Read the thread BEFORE you reply". Should I be surprised at this?
Now do you see why I suggested "dofollow" and its variants should be a keyword for premoderation?
