A lot depends on what you're advertising -- how saturated the market is and how high you bid your keywords and such.
I'd give it a try -- start small and get the feel for how it all works (and watch the campaigns closely to keep an eye on your budget). I think you'll like it and there's nothing quite like diving in and trying it -- might as well get some practice with it for free! I know with Google and MSN it's super easy to immediate stop your ads if you're going over what you'd like to spend, so don't be fearful of getting in too deep (just keep that eye on the costs).
