I caught a post earlier on, in another thread about domain age and It made me wonder if domain age/website age count for anything ? is this just another myth ?

I think having an older domain might help, but as with all the other factors in ranking, it isn't the be all and end all.

The way I look at it, my domain is as old as it is so I don't worry about it. If you do your seo right, young domains can get traffic.

Domain age is really important factor. It is not a myth because SE really can determine domain age.

It is really important to know that even new domain, with purchase made for 10 years really helps too. This build so called Google Trust Rank

From my experience it's not that you're rewarded for an older domain, but you may not achieve top rankings with a really new one.
I think it's something to do with spammers using new domains a lot or something.

You are presenting opinion as fact here unless:

1) You've seen the search engine code and it confirmed what you say
2) You can prove it
3) You are quoting a search engine employee

Reading it on another forum does not make it true.

But if DP or V7N says it, it has to be true, gringo! NEVER question V7N or DP logic!

It's probably a factor, but in the same vein that PageRank is a factor...it's one of over 100, and unlike PageRank it's something that can't be worried about or manipulated all that much.

Buying a domain for 10 years doesn't make its content higher in quality or closer in relevance to a particular query, but maybe it does influence a search engine's notion of trust. But then again maybe it dioesn't.

I think the Google engineers are well aware that the cost of registering a hostname for 5 or 10 years is not a prohibitive threshold to the "crash & burn" spammers.

The only "age" that SEs algos are likely to give credence to is the longetivity of a particular page and the links pointing to that page as determined by that search engines own resources.

Age of a domain is the most important factor in SEO. Don't pay attention to Hirst and Gringo. They're lieing to you to steal your valued PageRank.

If your domain is less than 100 years old, the only thing you can do is freeze yourself and come back to life 100 years from now. Then you'll enjoy good rankings.

I see another drawback. While you're cryogenically frozen, my domain is getting older, too. You need to move everything except your web site at light speed to make time move more slowly for the planet, and more quickly for your web site.

If you can package that in a web application, I'll beta test it for you.

You don't, if you get that demi-fake Netjerk Slowlutions 100-year domain registration thing (if they're still doing it).

Is that the same bogus pen I saw advertised that is capable of re-writing your domain 'in-situ' to be whatever you want? I bought a bucket of those stinkin' pens and almost ruined two monitors changing all my domains to "amazon.com"!
