Corect! And ,as a rule, try to get links from high traffic sites ,they are usually crawled often by bots.Besides forums, use social bookmarking sites.
In general,I am not refering on the links in my signature because the site is old, and yes I know some stuff, but I want to know what is your fast method to get indexed and the time.Some people say 24 or 48 h.
Get your Site a few good quality, related links. The best practice is to build up your site with good content ir order to be able to asked other good related sites to link to yours.
