Is link exchanging still a good thing to do as in terms of SEO/PR

Link exchanges don't help your site in terms of SEO, but more important, they don't help or impress your visitors. As a rule of thumb, any link that's easy to get isn't going to have much PR effect.

IMO, it can still help. but it depends on the quality of the site you link exchange with

That's what I thought... Good quality backlinks = Better PR = Better search engine ranking.

reword that to;


Good quality backlinks = Better PR = helps towards Better search engine ranking.

but its been shown again and again the pr value has plummeted. site swith a pr3 and good content always beat pr5 sites with bad content in the serps.

One way links help a lot. If u have One way links at high PR...it definitely helps ur PR.

Keith, lok at it this way: would you rather get traffic for free or would you rather get traffic that you'd have to give back to the provider?

Once you answer that question, you've answered every question you need to answer about link exchanges and SEO.

links from link farm or exchange is considered a low quality links. and even without any value. you can try having thousand of link echange to your domain and even after 6 mths, it not helping. thats what happened to my sites.

SE is smart to remove these links and drop the merits of it.

If you are selective enough when choosing websites to exchange links with, you will get some results
