I have submitted my site to hundreds of web directories. But I have some silly questions: will the web directories be permanent or they are just here temporarily? Will they close down one day? Why do people still creating web directories despite there are already thousands of them? Do I have to search for new web directories to submit my site regularly in case the ones to which I have submitted my site close down one day?

No intention to offend owners of web directories here. Just some questions in my mind for quite some time.

I guess we all better take our sites down... theres already millions out there...

To be honest if you have a good site, which is searchengine friendly then most of them will index you sooner or later.

And if its a web directory then i would only think your link would be removed if it was not what they wanted, or somin like that...

I think web directories will not close down, but if that happened what will happen to the site and to seo. Web directories offers free and paid directories for seo purposes and to increase link popularity. It will not close down and it will continue to have a hundreds of web directories.

Some will, just like some blogs will shut down. But that doesn't mean there will be no such thing right around the corner.

some will, some wont, some will expire, some will be sold and some will lose thier database through server malfunction.

That is why you need to continually add relevent content and continue to change with the times. If people like your site they will talk about it and send you traffic.

I definitely don't see web directories going away, but I think they will evolve to offer more down the road. Niche based directories are already growing pretty fast.

i think it will not, cause directories not just build for links the purpose of that is just like white directories which in indicate all different types of site.

Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring

Still directories helps in gaining back links to may site.And I think it will not Close down.

No they will not closed down if many site are added to them... they will make it paid submissions... They have free submissions 'coz they are trying to attract webowners to add their site and the more the site the better is the directories.... more traffic..

if you submitted to small directory, yes, likely they will be gone in few months or year
