Adam, does it help as much as forum posting with a Sig link would though? I know with forums its a good way to build rep. But I also know that getting a article published by and established publication of any kind is great for building your rep as well. Which would be better in a SEO's Case?

Articles can get your links on one page on multiple sites. Forum sigs can get your links on many pages on one site. Each has their value.

How about a study?
By which I mean, lets try to quantify it. If someone has a little free web space (hell a free blog may even be good enough) to set up a site. Then lets get the "pro-article" folks to start submitting articles to promote the site. There should be NO other promotion of the site. Smack some google analytics on it so everybody can see the results.

Why bother with the guessing and anecdotal evidence (and arguing on the same), when a study could prove or disprove the case?
Hasn't this horse has been beaten enough? Lets find out.

I agree that articles have their place, I never said they did not.
