I know this doesn't answer your question coldturkey, but I wouldn't recommend buying a book. The problem with books is that the author positions himself/herself as someone who has the authority to pass on accurate information to you. But the nature of this subject means that a lot of theories can't be verified. With a book you can't question the author about his belief or challenge his assumptions. You just read it and either accept it or reject it.

For me, I think it's better to visit a forum where you can discuss issues/theories/experiences with people who will look objectively at what they see going on and share their experiences and ideas in an unbiased way.

Books are an absolute waste -- especially when they're hawked by snake-oil salesmen who continue to copy/paste their crap into an alleged SEO book, and come here claiming to be an SEO who makes a comfortable living in SEO ... SEO's who know what they're doing, and doing very well, won't show up on this Forum to sell their book(s).

A third vote for "no book." Most books promote outdated methods which are solely in place for search engines at the expense of the end user.

Best thing you can do is ask here or in IHY for help. There are some of us who are in both forums droppin' mad SEO knowledge (and some of us just in this one, such as TA, Learning Newbie, and Forrest.) And it's free, so the price is right.

I must agree, TA, Learning Newbie, Forrest and Adam their have a lot of SEO knowledge. Books are still a good read though if you can afford them

Now Ebook, they are generally up to date, they kind of half to be or they would not sell
