www.accessorybug.com
I'm really puzzled. I rank 1.2 millionth on alexa.com. Google is indexing my site. I've been doing link exchange since sept of last year. When I google accessory bug my site is the first thing that comes up. I have good content on my site. It's got an intro landing site/blog plus catalog as the store. Yet I still only have a pagerank of 0.
I've been submitting my site to a few business directory manually but not a lot. Does submitting to web/business directories really help any of you acquire a decent pagerank? I'm really puzzled. please help!! As of now I'm desperate just to get a pagerank of 1.

Forget about pagerank completely. It means nothing. It won't get you more visitors, It wont get you more sales and it wont increase clicks on adsense.
You willl get PR eventually, Its a result of backlinks, But it doesnt actually mean anything.

I agree, page rank has no value to the search engines, its just a way for us to see the importance of a page quickly. But its rarely accurate anyhow!

Isn't that a contradiction in terms ??
And PageRank is the product of only ONE search engine

Stupid side question: wasn't theseokit banned? And more importantly, didn't he say he wouldn't post here anymore?
Anyway, plin, you're already ahead of 90% of people just for admitting that you don't know about PageRank. Most claim they know and get it, but don't.
Your problem isn't PageRank, though. It's merely illustrating a symptom of your greater problem...that your site has been built incorrectly and therefore cannot generate links of any real or lasting value (also known as organic traffic hyperlinks).
What do I mean? I mean that there are a number of errors in your design that are having a negative impact on your SEO.
First off, the landing page. It took me, a pretty tech-savvy dude, almost a minute to figure out how to enter your store in the first place. Yes, I found it on the top eventually, but it was obfuscated by your header graphic.
Easier solution...get people to the store in the first place! No landing page. No click to enter. Just give 'em the storefront, right off the top, and make sure it is what appears at www.accessorybug.com (not at www.accessorybug.com/catalog ).
That's your first mistake, and probably will drive away 4 out of 5 customers right off.
Next: your cart (which looks osCommerce-like to me) needs to be worked on so that session hashes (which are the querystrings beginning with osCsid=) are removed completely. This is bad search engine mojo. No session hashes in a URL. Baaaaaad.
For more information on session hashes and other things you can do to design your site with SEO in mind, check out this article (not my article, although one of my sites is in it and the author and I share a first name...one day I'm gonna have to thank this Adam McFarland guy for showing me love, just as soon as I figure out who he is):
http://www.devwebpro.com/devwebpro-3...SEOInMind.html
Another big issue, and this will aid in your promotion if you can address it, is that you don't have a physical address or telephone number. That looks shady and will prevent a lot of customers from buying your stuff. People like to know where and what they're buying from, and to know they can talk to real live human beings if they have a problem.
Simply put, you need to solve your user issues. Make your site as friendly for people as possible. In doing so, you'll solve many of your SEO issues simultaneously.

In response to what ADAM said about me, the mods and admin let me back as long as I keep my nose clean. You can help me do that by not making posts like you just did

thank you all very much for helping...
well initially i used a perminent 301 to make the site directly go to www.accessorybug.com/catalog but after not receiving any pagerank i decided to use a landing page instead.
as far as customers are concerned.. its not that im not getting traffic. i get about 300-500 unique a day. and sale wise we're doing well too.. we're doing 15k worth of revenue a month. i'm just totally puzzled about the pagerank thing. wouldnt you think if i get so much traffic and so much revenue that i would at least get 1 pagerank?? sigh...
thanks for your help anyways.

Well, as mentioned above page rank has no value to the search engines and how you rank. If you are racking in 15k a month your doing great!

I'm totally puzzled on the pagerank thing too. I'm 6 foot 3 inches tall, and I read that the average male is 5 foot 8 inches, so how could I possibly not have any pagerank???
Oh, yeah, PR is a measure of the links that point at you. Not how much traffic you get, not how tall you are, nothing but the number and weight of links pointing to one URL.
I'm not saying this to make fun of you. Trying to answer your question, and use humor at the same time.

I don't think it's a stupid question - too bad he's posting his "expert" jibberish again.

Forgive me for being suspicious, but I'm starting to smell a serious rat here. Based on your claims of revenue, and having built a site that draws quite a bit more in revenue and that attracts a somewhat similar market (women, but in the case I'm thinking of brides), I decided to do a little digging. And there are some signs that an inexperienced designer/developer has been working on this site.
Sign 1: http://whois.domaintools.com/accessorybug.com
The weird thing about this registration is that the host is not only the registrar, but the proxy registrant. If you ever need to cancel your hosting, this is a BIG problem. Always keep registrars and hosts separate...that way, when you need to switch one or the other, it's a lot easier. There are literally millions of horror stories out there about webmasters who cancelled their hosting and had their domains hijacked (my girlfriend's father was one of them, and it took me over a week fighting with iPowerWeb to get it back.)
The next few signs come as a result of the following query:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=accessorybug.com
You will have to navigate through the SERPs to find these pages as I did, but you're all smart so I'll let you do that yourselves.
Sign 2: An Amazon storefront. http://www.amazon.com/b/002-4296388-...A3MR2F8U7TULD7
Why would this even be necessary if the store were doing so well, and of that estimate of revenue, how much of it is the Amazon storefront? (I suspect at least half, if not the vast majority.)
Sign 3: This sign begins with this page:
http://handbags.wetpaint.com/page/Purse+Forum

This site is cool! you can edit your own comments! Thanks! Well, if you're looking for designer inspired handbags, try www.accessorybug.com. Owned by my friend Grace, she's such a cool person to deal with!
|
Note the name "Grace" (a rather unusual name in this modern day and age), because it's important as we travel through the SERPs. For example, we stumble upon this page:
http://iamfashion.blogspot.com/2007/...n-sort-of.html
Where a "Grace" said:
Quote:
Where do you guys go to buy celebrity accessories? I typically shop at accessorybug.com. I've made a few purchases there. They've become my good friends and they are really friendly people. The good thing about it is the price. The site is small and the price is super reasonable. I think you guys will love it. :-)
let me know if there are other places as well. :-)

Next on the docket, I found:
http://blog.freepeople.com/2007/02/w...out_out_1.html
Where our "girl" was at it again!
Quote:
Love the post on the wide legged pants! Just on a side note... If you're looking for handbags to go with the wide-legged pants, I'd suggest accessorybug.com. I've made a few purchases there. They've become my good friends and they are really friendly people. The good thing about it is the price. The site is small and the price is super reasonable. I think you guys will love it. :-)

These are just a few examples of poor blog comment spamming, and we also see some Craigslist ads and other cheap tricks as well.
I'm not buying the revenue claim and I don't think anyone here with any salt would either.
This does actually relate to the original question. People who try to manipulate and lie don't often gain any real links and are forced to resort to cheap tricks like this, which may work once in a blue moon but aren't a solid long term strategy. In instances like this, PageRank can act as an indicator of such behaviour (pretty well useless otherwise, but in this case it's supporting evidence.)

I can attest to this. I (used to) own a domain name that's pretty dear to me, but after a falling out with my old host, well, I'm still fighting to get it back.

Page rank doesnt have value, important is get as many links as possible to your page.Choose the pages having good PageRank. The PageRank of the site is different from the PageRank of the linking page. The two best examples of links to be obtained are those of directories DMOZ.org and Yahoo Directory who seem to play a great role in Google's algorithm.

I take it you don't see a contradiction in these two pieces of "advice"

No they don't. DMOZ is just a link like any other.
Yahoo in particular, uses a 302 redirect which does not pass any SE value.
