You know, this sounds so easy. And yet 99.9 % of the questions that get asked are basically proof people don't know about this formula for success. That one kid with the video game forums, refusing to create content, but wanting to know how to create a vibrant community over night, like sea monkeys. Just look at all the post for SEO help and when you look at their site they have maybe two or three pages with practically no real content. You see them buying links, chasing directories, doing link exchanges, and all the other madness. Yet, the time spent actually trying to make their sites better or enjoying life .....

So you mean the secret is building a good site and then working to make it better? Nah, couldn't be. That's just too easy. There has to be some kind of secret so I can rank my garbage site and make millions.

The secret is in how you define you goals. You probably already made millions of hits, so in one sense you can claim success. ( And we all know what happens to successful people: they write an ebook and sell it for $29.95. )

Funny read actually. I mean, what was this all about ? I think this solves all those crappy questions like, "how can I make high pagerank and traffic which by the way, should make me f***in' rich ?".

I think a lot of posts have been posted just about getting pagerank and the answers are always the same. I'm getting fed up.

Thanks for posting, I think this is a good read. I got 3000+ pages and making a decent sitemap hasnt really appealed to me. But if you say it will help its worth a type.

Content obviously plays a big role, but so do good strong backlinks. I for one am not really into putting my link in my sig anymore, yeah it creates a lot of backlinks but they do not have much power, I would rather do PR links of 4 or higher and rank way better and faster!
