If you're trying to get seen and come up in the rankings, then no, it's not doing any good at all. And there's a very good chance it's hurting you "artificially."

I'm probably the #1 guy against directory submissions around here. But we'll make an exception. They're a BIG step up from link exchanges. Go into the "Submit to my Directory" forum on this web site, click every link, and then on the site that comes up, find the category that describes your site, and click the "add a link" button. You'll have three choices: pay money for the link, get it for free, or get it for linking back to them. You want the free option; Google doesn't like reciprocal links. The directories benefit from knowing about as many sites as possible, and you benefit from getting a free, one-way link.
Next, after you've been a member at this web site for not very long, and offered some helpful advice, you'll put a link to your web site into your signature. Again, you won't have to put a link from your site back to this one, only join the community and say something interesting now and then. In exchange, you get a free one-way link with every post you make. And if you make interesting posts, people tend to click your link because they want to get some more background on you.
And then there are a whole lot of other options, but these are a good place to start, I don't want to overload you with too much info all at once, and if you ask more questions after doing this, you'll have some experience, and you'll get wise answers. ( Particularly from Adam Web Design. ) |
