I've been wondering these days. When you blog a post, you ping. But, when you submit a story to Digg, what next to make it popular ?
(P.S : I'm not sure if this is the perfect place to post this thread. So, please forgive me mods, if I went wrong.)

Next, you wait. If you don't have a "digg this" button on your page, you should probably add one. ( I think it's silly to, personally; I don't use digg, but I assume there's a toolbar button that comes with it? But most people suggest this, so I'm probably wrong. ) Some link building or advertising or whatever to get people to that page wouldn't hurt. But otherwise, it's pretty much out of your hands. If people like your story, they'll digg it, and other people will read it, like it, digg it, and eventually you'll have a snowball on your hands. Or not.
Good luck.

Check it if your article is posted in the upcoming stories and new popular stories that correspond to the category you choose.

If you really want to get "dugg", you need to be sure your site can handle the ton of visitors.

Sreejith the key is really having content that is worth digging. There are plenty of things you can do to make your content more diggable, but in the end it comes down to having content that the community on Digg will want to digg.

Three very popular topics. Oh and it should not be about seo unless you want the story buried.

Why not pay peaple $1 to digg your article? Pay 200 peaple $200 if you have adsence on your site, your laughing Youll make a fortune. 200 diggs and your on the front page, youll get about 60,000 uniqes on the first day then 10,000 uniqes for about a week after.
Dont say you wont make your money back Also.. Youll notice your search engine place will go up too

Hmm? Pay people? For one that's spam and goes against the policies of Digg. If you are buying or selling diggs you could find your account no longer working. Yes I know it happens, but Digg is working to prevent it from happening in the future. Buying diggs is greatly frowned upon.
Most people have found the community on Digg not to convert directly. What that means is they're going to come and visit and not be likely to make a purchase of click on an ad. In fact having ads on your content will probably make it less diggable.
The benefit of getting dugg is in the links you can get after the traffic.

For the obvious reasons...?
If Microsoft basing is popular, applying its lesson to the web isn't. Having lousy content that you have to pay other people to digg in order to bury your competition who competes on merit ... I guess it's easier to look down on Microsoft than to avoid their worst tactics.
Astrojith, you've done your part, and no you need to wait for the Digg community to do its part. In the meantime, you should concentrate on a completely different type of marketing. You know, keep all your eggs out of one basket.

Well, paying could work. But it could also backfire, especially if you do it a lot of times.

The great thing about social networking sites is that most people have no idea how to use them to generate traffic to their sites.
The bad thing about social networking sites is...that most people have no idea how to use them to generate traffic to their sites.
What do I mean by this?
Basically, what Steve said. Most people are so busy trying to find a shortcut to getting into social networking sites and creating the newest BS buzzphrase (Social Media Optimization) that they fail to realize that the best way to draw traffic from sites like this is to build sites for their users and let the users do the work for them.
Sites that are well built can get hundreds or even thousands of visitors from social bookmarking sites with relative ease. But they require a little bit of effort, some originality, and something people can use. That's the secret...building a site for your users. Do that, and the rest will come.

Exactly. I think everyone is beginning to realize there are no quick paths when it comes to seo. Even if they still think those shortcuts exist they aren't finding them, since...well...they don't exits.
So people are now moving into social media sites and assuming the shortcuts are there, but the situation is really the same with both.
Above all you need to have a good site. You need a site that people want to visit and want to tell other people to visit. The good thing about social media is you can help make it easier for people to find your content and tell others about it. So you'll see sites adding the bookmarklets to Digg or del.icio.us or Reddit or whoever.
Also if you want people on Digg to digg you then you should first spend time on Digg and get to know the community there. Understand what kind of stories they like and like to digg. Then give them that kind of content.
The Digg community for example seems to be anti-Microsoft and pro Apple and Linux. Chances are if you write an article talking about how wonderful Microsoft is your article will get buried before it gets dugg. Does that mean you shouldn't write that article? No if that's what you want to say you should say it. You should just know it's probably not as likely to make the Digg front page as an article on a different topic.
No shortcuts in social media. Build a good site with content people want to read and tell others to read. Do that and it will become much easier to promote.

Write a topic on how some govt agency is switching to linux.
The ironic thing about Digg, a lot of readers really don't read the full article. They read the tile and the summary.
