There is so much information on the web that talks about the basics of SEO. It boils down to 1) helping the search engines understand what your site is about and 2) getting the search engines to think your site is important about that topic.

People and SEOers tend to focus way too much on topic 1, which is not even close to as important as topic 2.

the premise falls down a little because SEs don't rank sites they rank pages for any given search

So replace "site" with "page" and it will be correct.
