To increase search engine ranking, we need to take care on metatag, look for quality link partner, keywords in paragraph, quality related info, smartpage..

But some one say that if our website traffic increase, search engine ranking will increase as well.

Will that be true?

So what exactly does a site need if not the above? Granted meta tags arent worth much now, but keywords in paragraphs still have some value, and inbound links?

The problem with both of the questions/statements is that they miss the forest for the trees.

The key to success online is very simple to understand, but very difficult to implement: build a site for your users. and the search engine stuff will come. If you build something people will like and tell enough people about it, you'll gain organic inbound links from places you never imagined, have a site that is trafficked, and solve many of the SEO issues as well.

Use header tags to describe the page.
Make sure your site is easily navigable and traversible.
Minimize your code.
Optimize your images both in terms of size and in terms of code...use tha alt tag to describe them.

And things of this nature...basically, if you build it properly and tell the right people, they will come.

Your search rank won't change just because more people are looking at your site. Any of the search engines can only guess at how often that has. ( This is probably why they put toolbars out. )

If you have a great site that's useful and novel, getting a lot of traffic might get you mentioned on blogs and in forums, maybe online reviews; other people creating links for you. And that will help your search rank. But of course showing up #1 for a particular query is all about bringing (targeted) traffic to your site, so we're looking at this backwards.

Basically, traffic and search placement aren't directly connected.

top rankings for keywords can lead to more search engine traffic, but they have to be searched for a lot.

^ i have to agree with this one, since if you have good ranking in SERPS, there is a bigger chance that your site will be visited.

Yeah, that's great an everything, but the question was whether getting more traffic will push you up higher in the SERPS, not the other way around. And the answer is a very clear no.

Yet another "link building is the universal SEO solvent" answer.
