Linkbait is essentially a piece of content placed on a web page - whether it's an article, blog post, picture, or any other section of cyberspace - that is designed for the specific intention of gathering links from as many different sources as possible.
With the rise of the blogosphere, meritocracy and social bookmarking sites, all it takes is one interesting page on a site, someone to notice the page, and a few people to share the link - and before you know it, you've accrued a large number of links across a wide variety of sites.

Yeah. It is like, an article or some kind of "cool"/controversial content that others will link to. It is just the idea of giving content out as bait to get some backlinks. For example, if I start a post like " Osama Bin Laden is dead", truth or lie, people will link to it for many reasons. One of those include saying "Hey, I found this crazy dude claiming Laden is dead ". Sometimes that does work.

U know, it is not fact, but controversy that attracts bloggers' attention. If u have some cool news to report, make it "controversial". They say News-editors never see if the news is true but if they are "sensational". I've read a lotta posts on this topic. Here are some of them :-

Well, I remember some good articles about this in Vangogh's blog but I dont remember the link. The search facility in his site is down too. So, I guess there's no other choice. Link baiting (or linkbaiting) is the latest buzz word in the SEO world and has come to be the preferred way to natural link building.


It means to create something that naturally attract backlinks for your web page by getting people to talk about it, discussing it on forums, blogging about i, posting it on del.icio.us/Furl/Digg/Shoutwire and linking to it from their sites. It also attracts a lot of visitors.

I'm not sure if you can call it natural link building or not. It really depends on the content and how legitimate it is.

The idea is, though, to create something people can and will link to because they find it interesting, thought-provoking, idiotic, informative, useless, annoying, or just something out of the ordinary.

Link Baiting is a way of building links. You'll create something that will attract visitors, and that others will link to your site...

Create an article that you think others will get information and that it is important to everyone and it be worth to share...by doing that others will link to you and you just build link in organic way...

Everything is fine but in the method of link bait, how can I come out top in the Search Engines with my targeted keywords?

It's very simple,

If you can't come up with an idea for "link bait" you never will.

As usual, Hirst is right.

Make a topic from your targeted keywords.
"Linkbait" (write quality content) related to that topic.

If it's that good, people will link to it and visit it and all that good stuff.
