I read on another site that backlinks are good, but if they all point to your main index page, it won't help as much. So getting what they called "deep links", which is a link that points to another page on your site besides the index or main page, is more important.

My question is that most of the SEO directories don't allow submissions like that, so how and where do you start building links to your other pages?

Paid submissions allows "deep linking". Other ways mutual linking, linkbaiting, etc

Create articles and submit them to article directories with your deep links on the resource box...if you want you can also use different anchor text using your targeted keywords...

Submit with you domain, and link your internal pages with the main page, sooner or later, the main page will pass PR to internal pages.

I came across this offer for Deep Links in a network of directories at Digital Point. Looked good value to me.

put links to relevent articles on Wiki, make sure they are a source of information that is relevent to the Wiki article

like others have said submit articles to digg.com, techtaggs.com etc

Hello there, deep links are very effective! I have several websites all which are considered deep and the pr carrys over to other pages in time. But if you use anchor text and link to new sections correctly it will do wonders for your ranking.

The bestest of all best ways is to write content that is worthy of a backlink.
If you can write a fantastic article you will get hundreds of deep links for free.

One thing that usually gets a lot of backlinks are lists.

List of webmaster tools for MAC OSx
List of webmaster firefox extensions

Also, if you can get an article submited to slashdot you will get tons of links because of the amount of people who syndicate slashdot.

you can always buy some link, or submit an article and hope it gets around the net...

Writing and submitting articles is a great way of attracting deeplinks. Many article directories allow you to put links in the body of the article, not only in the resource section. This adds a nice way of targeting very relevant pages from within your content.

It's easy (and recommended) to alter the anchor text as much as possible, making them more generic...ish.

Yeah right.. most directories do not accept deep links, but Asside from submitting to different directories, you may use alternative ways like Submitting Articles containing your deep links, you may used it also as one of your sigs. and others.

i agree.. and in addition to this, you can also create press release that include your links. Press Release is double purpose, you can place your links and at the same time you can inform people of the new products or services you have.

There are many ways to get deep links:

- Articles: You can do this by discussing the information of a product or a certain topic in your site. You may put your deep links in your resource box.
- Blogs: Just like article creation but you must use a link in any of your post or in your links section.
- Forum Signature: Most basic process to get deep links, use your forum signature to get a deep link.

You can also get deep links within your own site, hookup a site map and watch your link count grow. This is the easiest way to get things going, but if you want to do it forum Sig's are the next best option.

That isn't true at all - a sitemap will not make your links grow.

Oh sorry, my bad I meant pages indexed. Which will help in your ranking as your pages get seen more and indexed more overall.
