And how many of those would fall under point #3 from earlier? I'd say most, if not all of them.

I've bought and read about 3 of Aaron's books but, for some reason, I don't think its better than forums. Well, in forums, you can learn a lot of things in unusual angles. We can learn from different perspectives of different people. But, in his book, we're enslaved by his ideas. I think learning SEO is really much more fun and fast in forums. Whatever you guys think, I think those 3 books weren't good ( though not useless ).

And, I've been reading Matt Cutt's blog for 2 months. Its not bad. But, I can't understand why he's so cool in the blogosphere. The design itself makes me sick !! And the content is unnecessarily expanded. He could've made it smaller or something.

The design isn't his. It's a skin from http://beccary.com/goodies/wordpress-themes/ (Almost Spring.) This isn't a bad thing on his part...he just wanted something quick and neat to focus on the content.

The problem with his content is that it HAS to be expanded. There are a lot of people out there who interpret things a lot of different ways, and he's just trying to cover as many bases as possible.

Sreejith you may want to rethink some of those thoughts about Aaron. You're right he's just one person and so reading him you get one perspective, but Aaron knows quite a lot about SEO. In truth he knows more than most if not all of us here do.

To get different perspectives you should read different blogs. There are things to be learned on forums and sometimes a forum will be the best place since when something new happens it will probably spread on forums first, but don't discount blogs.

Matt Cutts gets a lot of attention in part because he works for Google. Given that we all tend to listen a little more when he says something Google related. He's obviously not going to be telling us the algorithm, but he probably has more insight into Google than most other bloggers.

Also Matt seems to be a pretty good guy and he's enjoyable to read.

While I do respect what Aaron has learned and done in the last couple years, he is still a newcomer in this industry of only a few years. Saying he knows more than most if not all here, is reaching a bit, IMO.

William I realize you're new here and I was referring mainly to the members who have been here awhile. I obviously don't know everyone here and what they know about seo, but I do think Aaron knows more than most of us posting here do. Maybe I shouldn't have added the 'if not all of us' part.

It was really meant to be more of a compliment to Aaron and what he's been able to accomplish than it was meant to be a knock on anyone who posts here.

Aaron may have only been in the industry for a few years, but there aren't exactly a lot of members here who have been at it longer. I'm sure there are some, but I'm talking about those who post here regularly.

My comment wasnot a knock against your post really, or one against Aaron, who I actually like, and like you think he has done well for the time he has been doing this. Just my own opinion :P

I didn't take it as a knock against my post or Aaron. I just wanted to explain myself a little more.

Well, u're right. He does know a lot more but I like to learn things thru questions. I sometimes feel books are boring when trying to learn something technical.

Yes, you could probably find most of the information found in SEO Book via multiple webmaster forums. However if you are new to SEO and want to learn the ropes quickly then his SEO Book could be well worth the price. $79 is a lot of money for most people but if you looking to start a serious internet business, in the big scope of things, it's a very small price to pay for the amount of knowledge the book offers.

IMO Aaron Wall is very good at what he does and knows what he is talking about. There is no SEO Book that is right about everything and again, you can learn most of it on your own. It depends what that time is worth to you (not to mention a lot of false information that is already out there).

Very true Tim. I learned most of what I know by reading through forums, blogs, articles, and experimenting on my own. I've also read some seo books (mostly free) some good and some bad. All are good ways to learn about seo and each usually has it's own perspective.

You won't get everything by learning from one source alone. It's always good to get a variety of viewpoints.

With some of the pay ebooks they can seem expensive, but they can also save a lot of time. If you're thinking of buying Aaron's ebook I would suggest spending some time reading his blog and see if you find what he says on the blog helpful. If you do you'll likely find the ebook worth the spend. If you don't care for his blog then maybe the ebook isn't for you.
