Need some SEO help, very niche specific

We have a website you can check out www.modularm.com. I'm interested in what suggestions people have to offer about the site, design, SEO efforts, etc.
I'm also curious about linking. I've done quite a bit of linking from many different places. I suggest some people try out http://www.directorycritic.com/free-directory-list.html
It lists directories, rates them, and tells you their pagerank.
On to my main topic though, I really want to find specialized, niche directories that will successfully give me link placement for our B2B electronics company. Popular terms tossed around that relate to what we do are food safety, food equipment & supplies, B2B electronics, energy saving devices, alarms, measurement devices, refrigeration, etc. etc. if you can think of any good directories or in general any other good way for us to promote our site / improve our SEO, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone had a good SEO advisory firm to suggested, we're open to working with an SEO firm if we think there will be a great value in it above and beyond what I can perform, although we don't see it as necessary at this point.
Thanks
Bryan

I'm generally not a big fan of the scrollbar inside of the page. There isn't really any need for it in your design and I would think it will just keep some people from seeing some of your content.
Also there's too many links for me on the home page. Instead of trying to direct people everywhere I would suggest directing them to your top level pages in the sections on your site. Give people a reason to click the links instead of just giving them the links.
One way you can find niche directories is by search for them. Try searches like:
'keyword phrase' + directory
'keyword phrase' + 'add url'
'keyword phrase' + 'submit url'
'keyword phrase' + 'add site'
'keyword phrase' + 'submit site'
and other variaious combinations. Try it for different keywords and think of other terms for 'add url' You should be able to find plenty of niche directories that way. Some will be pay, some will require reciprocal links, but some will be free one way inbound links.
Don't rely completely on directories though. It's good to have a balance in your link profile. A variety of sources and a variety of anchor text is better than keeping both all the same.

Vangogh said all.
Still if you look for links, then you can do
1. Directory Submission
2. Article Submission
3. Press Release
4. Mutual Links
5. Buying Text Links
If you site is very useful informative or giveaway something useful for free, you don't have to look for links. You just have to spread the message.

mind you with this kind of response Could you tell me what site links are from the site administrator of a supposedly SEO forum I think they need a clue fairly soon.
Especially when apparently it was 2004 when he signed up.
I know, I know we shouldn't be "dissing" another forum but hey!

I think you are on the wrong way. For a site like yours, traffic to it is not important. You shall make advertisement on magzines of your industry, show up in exhibition, fairs, conference etc. Not every one from internet can be your client or customer. So I think you shall focus promote your product instead of your website.
BTW, how come you say your site is B2B? It's not a trading platform, am I right?

Then why have a site? That's a completely idiotic thing to say. I know it's not PC to say that, but I really don't care. That's just plain dumb.
Anyway, onto the site. Bryan, your best sources of links won't come through conventional SEO. Having worked on industrial/manufacturing sites in the past, one of your best sources will be the various publications and industry trade journals that have an online presence. Now, what are those? None of us in here are going to know. You're the industry type, so you know which sites are cool in that regard.
hhheng isn't totally off the mark as far as the exhibitions and trade fairs go. There is an SEO implication, albeit a small one. If you get listed as an exhibitor and the company putting on the show has a half-decent site, you might get some direct and indirect traffic as a result. Just don't make this the primary reason to exhibit, that's all: if the direct ROI isn't going to put you in the black, don't gamble on indirect ROI.
Lastly, and most importantly, the best SEO you can do for your site is to avoid thinking about it. Yes, I know that's paradoxical...but it's absolutely true in your case. You've coded the site pretty well (room for improvement as there is with any site, but I've certainly seen much worse code than that), but it looks like just about every other industry/manufacturing website. The only thing it's missing is equal parts red to blue so that you have the hot/cold counterbalance.
WHERE'S THE RED, **** YOU? YOU NEED THE RED! THE RED IS KEY TO ALL!
If I were you, I'd look at a different skin....find something more...well, not what every industry site has done since 1998. Do something different. Make it look like a promotional piece. Stuff like that draws attention, and if it's like most industry types, they'll give you beaucoup bucks to do it as long as it becomes a puff piece.
