I'm thinking about doing an html website with a flash navigation bar. I was going to put a text link for the site map just above it and at the bottom of the page put the same links in as text links.

Will this be better than using java-script with roll overs?

Spider bots can't do anything with flash. They only read text.

st0x is right, but as long as you have the text links to your major stuff in a footer somewhere, you'll be fine.

Yes, bots ignore flash, so as long as your flash movies are on static html pages with static text, links, etc. You be fine. Like Adam said, a footer is good and or header.

This probably won't apply to what your doing, and I do agree with the other guys that you should be fine with links placed elsewhere but I wanted to make everyone aware of a menu by TwinHelix. It uses lists (<UL> & <LI> tags) so all of the visuals are done with CSS. There is a little Javascript but nothing to worry about alienating people.

Anyway it is the most favorite menu system I've ever seen (if you need drop down or sliders)

And now I present the link http://www.twinhelix.com/dhtml/fsmenu/
I know you'll like it

Googlebot reads text in SWF files and also index embedded URLs. But content in SWF file will not be consider as content parent html document. Both are consider as seperate documents. Yahoo and MSN just ignore <object >
