All webmasters are talking about seo. Counting words density, placing headers, meta keywords, placing most important words closer to <head>, etc. All this to get 25 visitors in 4 months.

A website I won't name here not to provoke calling me spamer. It went online two weeks ago and it already has 40+ visitors daily from google (and constantly growing) plus something like 10-15 visitors from other 5 websites of mine which have about 3000 daily visitors in sum. No special SEO technics, no advertisement, no links buying. Quite simple page layout and standards incompliant html. The growth is steady and I really hope I will get up to 1..1,5k uniques/day to the end of month.

How would you call this? Luck? My very first website was starting the same way. I knew nothing about semantically correct html coding, about seo and about link exchanges. In 4 months my site gained 12k visitors/day 95% of them were from G. Later it went down to 1k uniques/day owing to my biggest mistake ever (yes, I implemented my first knowledge about black hat seo) and I began making new websites on the same topic using all my knowledge of seo I already got from forums, newsgroups and talking to other people. And know what? None of them ever climbed higher than that first one. The less seo I do on site the more traffic it gets.

What is my problem?

Bit of an open qusetion that one

Maybe the area you are having less success in is more competitive. Maybe your seo efforts aren't very good. It's hard to know without the details.

Regarding your success with your first website (the one you didn't optimise), it could be that you are one of the rare web publishers who actually had a Good Idea, news of which spread virally. If you have a website that provides something that users really want, and there is a good way for news of this to spread quickly, you might not need seo at all.

Congrats on your first website though What is it?

I agree with gringo about it being an open question and we need more specifics to really give you a good answer.

The seo you mention (meta tags, keyword density) isn't the kind of thing that will help a page much unless you're talking about less competitive searches.

My guess is that with that first site you did more seo than you realize. SEO has a lot more to do with building quality links than a few minor on-page factors. It sounds like the links you added from your other sites might have been enough to help your site out.

Google is actually preferring sites that appear not to be optimized at all. You can actually trip up some over optimization filters by doing too much optimization. The trick really is to build a quality site and acquire links naturally because you have content that other people find useful and want to link to.

All my sites, both less successful and more successful, are on the same topic - shareware downloads. This niche is very old, has its flagmans which work for more than 15 years already and is overcrowded with millions of almost-the-same sites. Creating a shareware website is rather a simple thing because there is wonderful source of free content for it, Association of Shareware Professionals: Portable Application Description (PAD), that's why everyone I know have tried to make his shareware website at least once. In fact it is just a kind of legal doorway, because it mainly brings from adsense not sales, if talk about newly created websites. But since the competition is high it is very hard for such sites to get any significant place in serps. Though for some reason two of them succeeded.

If you need to urls to see and check
The very first which was very popular but fell down: Free downloads software
Three which didn't succeed at all: Download most recent software and OMGsoft.com: Software downloads site and The Software Blog - PadLib.com
The recent one which is doing better and better every day: Download software at Shareware Dump!
