Hi everyone

I have a site that I got (at least I thought) some professional SEO advice and help on. Unfortunately the company in question supplied a bunch of useless in bound links i.e. you run "link:www.site.com/linkpage" in google and those pages have no back links or even if you "site:www.site.com/linkpage" it is not found in the Google index. I felt these links to be worthless...

Anyway this SEO compnay now says they are going to undo all of the stuff they have done to get our site indexed by google, it's come in on page 40 and not climbing afer doing lots of stuff they wanted us to do.

Can they do anything to knock our website out of the Google index?

I look foward to thoughts/advice on this...

regards
Dataman

I think they're trying to scare you more than anything. I'm assuming they no longer have access to the files and can't change anything on the site. If they can access the files they can do things. Even without access they can do some things though it's difficult and they would need to be extremely knowledgeable and have a lot of time to spend. I really think it was mostly a scare tactic since I've seen other people post similar things on other forums.

However you should know that neither of the searches you mentioned will work like you think. Google never shows all the backlinks it knows about. It typically only shows a very small number of links and those are just random. It's possible the links supplied by the seo have been picked up by Google. You can try the search in Yahoo since they show many more backlinks. It's the same search, but you need to include the http://

The site: search is only meant for the general domain so if you want to see if linpage is in the index just try site:www.site.com and check to the results to see if it's there. It can take time though for your site to be indexed regardless of what your seo did. In fact getting many of your pages indexed will mostly depend on how your site was built. Your site needed to be built in a way that allows spiders to crawl it. I don't know if your seo was responsible for that ot not. Your forum signatiure will be enough to get your home page indexed assuming your links point to your home page.

They company in question may have supplied useless inbound links, but without knowing more it's really impossible to know.

Hi Vangogh

Your advice is as good as your art

Thank you for your detailed reply, the SEO company does not have ftp access to the site so I take it that I am ok from what you say.

Best regards

Yeah I really do think it's more of a scare tactic than anything else. I've heard of some companies threatening this in the past. There are some things they could probably still do, but I do think it's really hard and not really worth their time.

I assume things didn't end well with the company.
