You see, I'm the owner of a nuke powered community(www.webmasteric.tk). My site has been released for 6 months from now. Still, I have no members other than me. I designed the site attractively and creatively. I did SEO stuff. Still, I'm a ZERO.

But, if u look at Blueportal Community which was launched an year ago, u'll be amazed that there are 82715 active members and more than 10 members everyday. U see, I was the 6th member or so when the site lauched in late 2005. Then, there was only some 6 ebooks or so. Now there are more than 11000. And, everyone of those ebooks are contributed by members. Now, my site has more than 18 content pages(articles and ebooks) and a forum(which blueportal doesnt have). Still, I dont have members.

Blueportal is not attractive. Blueportal's server is very slow. Blueportal doesn't have a forum. But.........Blueportal is better than my site. Why is this happening ? Is there any magic formula to getting a successful community ? How should I promote it ?

Yeah, there is.

1) Hard work.

2) No expectation of overnight success.

3) Understanding that aesthetic appeal is subjective.

4) Information that no one else has.

5) Information that people will want (not a bio of you on the opening page).

6) Not using framed pages.

7) A non-.tk domain name (which is probably what led to 6).

That's about as simple as I can put it. The long and the short of it is that your site offers nothing unique or original.

No matter how much time you spent on the look of your site, or how nice you think it looks that is never going to make people join and contribute.
In the history of the internet not a single person has ever joined a forum because it looks nice.

Your forum has no threads in it, Not even a welcome thread.. Why would people join an empty forum? It's like drawing a square on the floor in the middle of the desert and expecting people to gather in it and start having conversations, It's just not going to happen.

Also, Everything Adam said.

Some top advice in this thread; just sprayed out a load of TP

Seriously though, I thought you'd given up on believing in magic formulas a week or two ago, but obviously not.

Quote:
He's a 15 year old boy from India.
We were all 15 once and I don't want to sound mean but - nobody cares. Until your site's a rip-roaring success, don't mention the fact that you're yet another 15 year old entrepeneur. Once the site is successful, then is the time to tell them.

Nobody's perfect, but if you're passionate about "webmaster stuff", at least make your website gramatically correct.

Think about your audience:
  • Experienced webmasters
  • Non-experienced webmasters. Plenty of teenagers in this category

I doubt you've considered advertising the site, but we'll leave that for the moment. To appeal to experienced webmasters, you need something to offer. Nobody's going to trust a (what they believe to be) unsuccessful, unable to spell kid. Sounds harsh, but "wake up and smell the coffee".

Non-experienced webmasters? They want to learn. They want to read. Why did you join WT? Because it's full of great members and has hundreds of informative topics. Is there a wealth of information on your site? No.

There's also little or no content on your site. You say there are "over 18 pages", but there's none. The links don't work. You can't just pretend there's content and then expect people to discuss it. It doesn't work like that.

Take a look at your site and ask yourself why anybody would want to join it. What are the benefits? What do they get out of it? The internet is the biggest example of window-shopping in the world - you take a quick look at a site, if you don't like it, you get rid of it in a millisecond.

As for blueportal, it is indeed slow. It also appears to be an illegal, pirating site. People like free stuff. It's a fact of life - but don't even go there, it's illegal.

Once you have a site worth joining, advertise. I'll leave that for your next post of despair

Edit: Okay, I haven't added TP yet. But it's telling me I need to spread it around for all three of you! Back in a minute!.

Cool and freaky advice, Harvey. Thank u all for showing me my mistakes. I'm fulla mistakes bcuz I'm somewhat new to webmastery and I'm only 15. I've a long way to go. And, I'll ditch that Bio outta the homepage. It is a little annoying. Pls tell me. Is it good or is it just safe to take the ebooks on Blueportal and put on my site ? U told it is illegal. But, if it was illegal, how would Blueportal have YPN ADs on the site ? YPN bannes sites with illegal content. Right ? Pls give me a reply.

People need to find it first. If there is NO activity, however, they will leave. Try starting some threads to peak interest.
