yes, I know, even though I am a very lazy article writer, have yet only written 2 and submitted way back, I still get traffic from the articles. You can check them out at my site.

but your article has be "useful", you can't just write an article simply want to acquire backlinks. An article need to solve a real life problem, and then you tell the audience how your site/product can help them

One article submitted to hundreds of websites does not help with PR increase IMO. Most of the pages publishing the article can come under the duplicate content filter by SEs.
