I was glad to see one of my client's sites move up 101 spots today - though, it's still not close to the first page and I know it's going to get tougher since I'm running into legitimate competition.

But how I did it really puzzles me, I guess in a good way. I would leave a few backlinks from relevant forums and then leave regular sig links from SEO forums such as this. I did however create 15 Web 2.0 properties - but - these are not indexed as of yet, so I know that they didn't help.

There is going to be a lot of ppl disagree w/ me about this - but I'm believing now since I'm moving up (so far anyway) is because I kept the anchor text the same. In the past, I would have different variances of my anchor text, but this time, I thought I would try a little experiment - and so far, it is working.

What do you guys think? If you keep your anchor texts the same - will it hurt or help? Seemed like it is helping me - but I might be bragging a little to soon...

There are a lot of factors that is working behind this.

1. A move from 200 to 100 or even from 150 to 50 is not that crucial coz any Search Engine would not only check the backlinks but a whole lot of other factors.

2. Content, Anchor Text, Navigation, Keyword Relevance, Keyword Competition all are taken into account.

3. Domain age, url structuring, content updation are other such factors.

In short there can be so many more factors which account for a change in the position. Untill and unless you provide us with the exact feedback on what happened, I believe we would be guessing around here and there.

First off congrats on the result, it's always good to see your sites progress.

I mentioned in a previous post that I used to work on SEO for an architecture company. Originally we started targeting longtail phrases, but once I'd conquered these I started going for the highly competitive term of just "architects."

I changed all of my anchor texts to simply "architects", and I also changed the TITLE and H1 tags to simply be "Architects"

I saw our site jump into the SERPs at page 95 for this term (yes, I searched by hand and it took hours!) and within a month we were up at page 14 where we peaked.

What was most interesting was that we didn't slip out of the SERPs for the longtail phrases we'd previously been targeting.

I do believe that anchor text variation can be a good thing - if you're site has a selection of keywords then I would suggest mixing up your anchor text - this would make it seem more natural to Google.

Perhaps it's the anchor text in relation to what other sites around you are missing. In other words you made your stand and the surrounding sites where probably wishy washy. Your surrounding or competiton was probably week.

I said that I would be running into serious competition. Again - just an experiment.

Or maybe you are just looking at a different datacentre and it will all change again tomorrow.

or you could be logged in to a Google account and they are showing the results thay think you want.

First off, congrats on the +101 movement, but I've found that there's a lot of volatility in the SERPs when google does updates. It's happened to me quite a few time but here's hoping yours will stay there.

Any result that far down the rankings is meaningless Im afraid. I check movement within the SERPs daily for 50 of my keyterms/pages, and every single day I see large movements. For example one day I ranked at position 49 for a keyword, and the next day 211, so unless you are on the top 2 or 3 pages, you often jump all over the place anyway.

Right if you are logged into Google then your results will be a heck of a lot different.

Now what do you mean by keeping the anchor text the same?

The anchor text of your home page? You should not change that more than a few times a year?

But nevertheless if you add content to your site and get backlinks at the same time....you will move up! This is the name of the SEO game.

I have a feeling you will be coming back in a few weeks letting us know that your site is now in SERP oblivion. I have been there. Banged out some link building like crazy all using same anchor text, got to first page for my keyword, got lots of clicks, lots of adsense clicks, made lots of money for about a week. Then that site was past about the 20th page, never regained any kind of position at all for those keywords.

Still climbing guys. Hey - if I go down - at least I'll learn. I started around #285 and moved up 101 positions. Then I checked today and I moved up again - I'm at #81. We'll see if it holds.

I don't believe it will hold - but who knows. I love experimenting w/ stuff like this.
