There is no pet rule in it.It depend upon the quality of site.Webmaster-talk is a great forum and i think its better than many social bookmarkers. I think you should go for both

Neither! Both are equally useless.

The SE developer teams are well aware of where links can be "self placed" so they can easily be given less (or no) credence in the weighting stakes.

AND (of course) You should be judging links by their ADVERTISING value not some dubious SE "value"

I think the only way in the sig in forum is to really contribute to the forum, post quality post!

In this way, we can not only enjoy the fun of being communiating, but also get some backlinks!

I have GREAT experience with links from social bookmarking sites. Needless to say, you need to get backlinks from dozens of social bookmarking sites in order to increase traffic dramatically, but this method is still very effective.

They have their own different perspective. And they are both important. Social bookmarking can give you a good traffic. But of course depends on how you gonna handle it.While forum signature helps you to gain your quality links. Just be sure you are not spamming the forums. And doing this two options needs participation within the community. For the betterment of your reputation

I like to do socila bookmarking more, because it is not so time and enery consuming.

Besides, it helps with the quick index!

It IS time consuming if you are serious about social bookmarking. If you submit your URLs to several social sites only, I don't think it can be considered as serious bookmarking.

Either way, both are going to be low quality links to be honest.

Forums have their benefits: posting in forums where your client base might be would be a good way of getting traffic. Social bookmarking might also bring in some traffic.

Links in your signature do count but as I said, they are VERY low quality. You need over a 1000 just to take your site to a PR1.

At the end of the day, there really is no such thing as a bad link. All links are good as they can bring you traffic. Traffic brings conversions, not ranking.

Really? If you are interested, I have performed some kind of experiment. Completely new domain + completely new site. Domain was never registered before and it was not submitted to any search engine.

I got some kind of social bookmarking software and submitted this domain to sites supported by that tool. One week later, new site was getting 100+ daily visitors and it was indexed in major search engines. I know 100+ daily visitors isn't that many, but it was for completely new site and I did NOT promote site using other methods.

Both are good promotional methods but for but with little or no SEO value especially if the links have the nofollow attribute hoever, could be great for human traffic

nofollow does not prevent sites from being indexed.

Not sure how to compare between both cause there are so many social bookmarks and forums around. Anyway, I'll use both.

Yeah most people often confuse “noindex” with “nofollow.” In order for a link not show on the results page of SE, the meta robots tag with the “noindex” attribute, <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex” /> has to be used.
This meta tag tell search engines that they should not index that page, so it worth include it on the search results.
