Backlinks and the Keywords?

When is it too many keywords in a link? Like my link signature? Does it have too many keywords? Should I only target "website design katy" and then with other links target "website design houston"? Does it hurt to have all of the keywords in link?

I honestly feel I have too many and that is why I ask. I should probably go with my gut feeling but I would like to hear other opinions.

Thanks!

Okay I suggest you to target these keywords. Website and graphic design, website and graphic design katy, website and graphic design houston texas and so on you can reverse the phrase. Try to visit google adwords.

Except for your brand name, you should try to research your keywords if it is being searched a lot in search engines. The search engine spiders will crawl your signature and probably rank it high in search results.

Thanks for the replies!

I have done research in adwords and "Website Design Houston" is searched for the most but it is congested with SEO websites. "Website Design Katy" and "Website Design Spring" has less competition. I was thinking about starting with those to earn some business (getting the tail of the fish) and as I get a better rank I can focus on "Website Design Houston".

If my links have "Website Design Katy" and I get in the top of for those searches and switch to "Website Design Houston" for my links will that hurt at all?

I guess I am trying to plan for the long run and want to make sure when I use "Website Design Katy" for my backlinks and change focus to "Website Design Houston" I don't get penalized. Right now I want to get high in "Website Design Katy", but later I do want to be the top in "Website Design Houston". Again, that is why I have all the keywords in my backlink.

I want the work that I do now to help towards my main goal of "Website Design Houston" if possible.

I hope I am not over analyzing this.

Thanks for any input!

-Saul

You should plan all backlinks to be permanent. I only use forum signatures to get sites indexed. If this is the only site you plan to promote, then break it up. See how kim robin has the first two links in her sig to the same URL. Do that, have three or four links with different keywords all going to your site. And then leave them there, don't change them or remove them.

You should only have one keyword in the link. The link you have will make you rank well for "Website & Graphic Design Katy, Spring, Conroe, Houston Texas Area". If you search google for that keyword, you are number one. All your links should be separate keywords.

Thanks for the input. I am not using this site as a way to get high rankings. I am using the site as a way to get started and a way to learn. I am working on all of the other suggested ways on the forum but if I don't have the backlinks setup correctly I would be wasting time.

I have changed my signature to your suggestion and I appreciate the help.

Should I do the same with my website? Is SEO about the phrase and the keywords next to each other in the exact phrase that is going to be searched? I thought you just had to have the keywords on your site? If you look at my title should I change it to be "Website Design Katy, Website Design Houston, Graphic Design Katy, Graphic Design Houston"?

If a person searches for "Website Design Katy" but my title is "Website & Graphic Design Katy", would that mean I would rank lower? That is what I am trying to get at.

Thanks!

Targeting many keywords gives you the chances of gaining more visitors and popularity because people search in different terms with more keywords and phrases. But we must avoid "keyword stufffing".
Then targeting long tail keywords can bring in more targeted visitors, genuine customers and insure conversion.

Ok, so I am doing the right thing right now. Not too many to be "keyword stuffing" but just enough to cover my bases.

Thanks!
