Guys

Been a while since I posted and need a little help here...

I have a client "A" who I am doing a redesign for and their competitor "B" is now appearing above "A" in the SER, however - when I search they are not.

That's not really a problem for me as the new site deisgn is probably a couple of months away from launch. However, I inspected the source code for their competitor "B" and discovered a commented line like this:

<!-- KEYWORDS & PHRASES -->

Also, further down the page I discovered a shed load of links with keyword stuffing that were using a foreground colour almost identical to the background colour.

I'm not impressed but am wondering what I should do as my client is furious and wants to report them to Google.

If anyone wants URLs, please PM me as I would prefer not to post these in the public forum unless a mod says it will be OK.

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't report them. However, I can't imagine that they will stay in that position for too long even if you don't. They're pretty amateurish black hats if they're using those techniques.

Agreed.

I would report it anyway. To report it, I believe all you need is a Google webmaster tools account https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ , then go to the right column, and click "report spam in our index".

Eitherway, as they said above, these techniques are old and will not do much. A few good quality backlinks for you, and you should pass right by them.

Hi there

Report them and move on, they will get found out eventually, theres absolutly no point worrying about anyone elses site other than your own.

Concentrate on improving your site and you will pass the offending site eventually anyway, I have had this problem in the past, reported them and very little happened, just ended up wasting my own time and energy on something I have no control over !

There's no harm in reporting that in Google. Any sites that use black hat tactics should be penalized. As regards to your site, you should build quality links for it to exceed the ranking of your competitors.

I am sure you can beat them with the right techniques. Those are some just minor black hat techniques that they're using. If you can get a good and updated content plus a high and relevant backlinks, then I guess you should be fine.

I am very surprised that this kind of thing still works for black hatters.

Yep, just report via webmaster tools. Very cheesy attempt at black hat as far as I see it.

Tell your client not to worry, sooner or later his competitor will pay a heavy price for what he is doing.

Meanwhile tell your client never ever indulge in all these black hat techniques.
