I think the main factor in SEO work is having a good communication skills. Why? because in doing a search engine optimization you need to promote you site and promoting means you have to be good in communication skills if not your ads,posts,submissions will not help your site at all. For example a classified ads, if you don't know whats the right words to describe your site chances are no traffic at all. all strategies in SEO requires good communication skills. Including the one you are reading right now.

The main factor would be your market. Well, that is why you are doing SEO for your site right? to get more visitors reach it easily. You should always think of your visitors first before SE. optimize your site for SE, create content and provide products and services for your visitor.

I think Keyword is the main factor in SEO. All depends on it.

I think the targeted market and your competitor would be prioritized first and the rest will follow I guess, just my opinion.

so obviously we all have different main factor in SEO work and I think that all techniques used by an SEO can be a main factor if that person knows how to apply it well and becomes good at it and shows impressive results.

Odd how many people want to prove they have NO idea what SEO is.

I'm definitely no SEO, but I'll take a swipe. In no particular order:

• A descriptive but relevant title tag in the head of the document
• A descriptive (clean would be nice too, but for other reasons) URL
• Semantic markup by using the h1-6 tags properly
• No-following outbound links or links that lead to pages like contact forms or privacy policies
• Making sure that the anchor text for any in-site links is keyword descriptive rather than something like 'click here'
• Using synonyms in the content in a natural way so that the reader doesn't get bored with repetition with the added bonus of making it more findable for long-tail searches

There are about 8 billion other things I'd recommend doing for each page as well, but they are more for the user than the search engine. But then again, what's good for the goose is usually good for the gander.
