It will be functional as far as not having broken links. But it is horrible as far as search engine optimization.

How did you have it?

It would be nice to have some keywords in the URL, but I wouldn't go too crazy with it.

I personally like this url structure for vBSEO the best (I don't have vBSEO but if I did this is how I would have it). I don't think keywords in URLs have a lot of weight in the SEs these days because its so easy to manipulate them.

Edit: judging by the timestamp of your original post I'm guessing you had wordpress or something up when you posted it and thats what you were talking about. Well whatever, I still think keywords in URLs don't really matter.

Keywords in URLs don't carry a lot of weight in search engines themselves, but keywords in URLS influence what people type as the link text when they do spontaneous linking to your content. In a large percentage of cases, the url itself becomes the link text -- and the link text definitely carries a LOT of weight with the search engines. Because they are often the same (link text and link url) when other people link to your content, using keywords in your URLs is a very very good idea.

If you use keywords in the url with vbseo, make sure you at least add the id number in there to prevent duplicate urls in the event you have two forums named the same thing and it will also save a query to get the id.

For example, going off what xbox suggested I'd use: /forum/windows-$id/
