Now Gmail can check for the mail you receive at your other email accounts. You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail. Then you can even create a customized 'From:' address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts. Please note that you can only retrieve mail from accounts that have POP3 access enabled.
I don't wear a tin foil hat - so this may be of use to me. When I go away for short breaks I still need my e-mail, normally that involves using 4-5 different webmail logins, so this could be an option. Especially if it has the option to not download from server, or mark the email as read/downloaded.
my gmail account was inacessible for about 8 hours today - during the business day - talk about annoying... lol.. almost makes me think paying them $50/year is a good idea.
im starting to get a bit of spam with this now which is annoying but just how can anyone have an email account without spam.
the gmail spam filter is adaptive - its based on what other users report as spam. so make sure you report real spam as spam and just opt out of lists you don't want to be on.

good information.
I think I'll give the new feature that google added a try, better than checking 3-4 email accounts.

You can do what i did...
setup a label for each new account your adding - then just set a filter to auto archive and label the email from each account- then it will just get checked and moved.
FYI - they do check the servers for new messages like every 2 or 3 minutes...
