This is pretty typical, actually. Alot of times Google will index a new site and it will rank really well for the first few months, and then it will drop completely off the radar for a few months before it appears again. This seems to be especially true for IM or 'make money' sites that focus on popular keywords.
It's basically Google's way of filtering out the spam sites. They figure that most of the spam sites will not last through the 'sandbox' period, while most of the legitimate sites will. It sucks but it's just part of the game. Use the down time to optimize your site and keep adding fresh content to until they let you out of "Google jail".
