well i have 2 sites the alexa rank and graphs were calculated properly till december 31st but from jan 1st its not getting calculated.. the graph is just plain.....

please tell me what might be wrong

Alexa Traffic stats work well for my sites.

No actually iam promoting my site and the number of visitors are increasing day by day..

With out Alexa how you know if a site have traffic or not ? I use Alexa tool bar everyday. This site have alexa rank 3,811 so i know this site get some good traffic. With out alexa, this forum will be like other forums. For me, it give an idea if a site have traffic or not.

Alaxa rank have errors, but you can get some idea of traffic looking the alexa rank.

Alexa only considers the traffic of those users who have installed Alexa toolbar. There is still a substantial amount of internet users who don't use this toolbar..

To view your site's traffic, simply access your Cpanel / weblog or use Google Analytics.

why you guys care about alexa rating anyway? if i visit your site a million time it will count nothing since i dont use alexa tool bar. PR from google and search results are more important than alexa rating.

I can make a site rank in alexa 20,000 and nothing in it. I hope you get the idea

I have a client site that has naturally flowed to a 20,000 and the owner of that site is elated every time that it lowers. He is happy to the point that I receive money and product based on it. So I have got to ask you. Does the Alexa ranking have value to me? You bet.

Alexa is one tool used by the person who sell domain name to give more valuable to their business.

You can fool Alexa rank if you need. But not everyone do that. What Alexa rank give is an idea about the traffic your web site get from users who use Alexa tool bar, there are lot of users who use the tool bard, they use the data collected from users of Alexa tool bar and rank web sites.

Is there any other way to rank traffic of web sites on Internet better than Alexa Rank ? Until more popular company like yahoo or google start some thing, you need to rely on Alexa Rank to see Traffic Rank. Even if the rank have some % of errors, it is still useful.

If Alexa rank have no significance, why sites like adbrite, text-link-ads show it ?

Why not just check your logs? You'll get a lot better data from that than you will get from a tool that measures what sites webmasters browse.

Working for a larger company, I'm fortunate to have Hitwise. I find very little use, however, for the traffic stats of other sites. All that really matters is how you rank for your keywords in the search engines and the analytics on your own site (visitors, page views, time on site, etc).

I don't want traffic of my site. I want to know traffic of other web sites i visit. For example EF.

Can I ask what you want that data for? In otherwords, how does that data help you?

Exactly. Value is in the eye of the beholder, so Alexa rank might not be worth something to some people here, but for others it might be important.

What is it they say about a fool and his money?

Not at all a reflection on your services. But anyone who doesn't know how to track their own traffic has no business running a website. Hence why there are so many ripoff "SEO" "Firms" out there that get 4-5 figure contracts to do things that any webmaster should be able to do long before launching a site. People are too quick to think of the internet as panacea.

O'boy, we wouldn't have many websites out there then, would we? Actually, it sounds like Pearse is running the website for him, and I'm sure plenty of us here run websites for clients.

I think people that don't know how to run their own sites are more in danger of being taken like you said when you mentioned the "SEO" firms. That lack of knowledge makes up part of my income since it allows me to audit those "SEO firms' proposals for small site or business owners.

The client in question however built his first site on his own back in '99 and I've actually learned quite a bit from him. I used him as an example because of his crazy Alexa obsession since he is quite capable of doing his own analytics but still gets "happy" or "sad" based on the Alexa stats. Honestly I think it comes down to him seeing his competitors Alexa ranking and it becoming an ego thing. He's just like that. I am not paid based on the Alexa toolbar but it can add to a good month if it goes his way.
