Hi All,

I wanted to ask your opinions about this Googles penalty for having build too many inbound links in a short period of time

webmasterworld.com/google/3084915.htm

I need to do link building for a client and plan to simply build 10-20 links in a span of 3-6 months. Is that okay?

I plan to get links from good sources NOT blogs or forums. My client sells specialty electronics so i will only go to electronics review sites.

At any rate, this is a small site with currently 50 inbound links. will 20 additional links from quality websites that write orginal electronics reviews be a problem you think, in a 3-6 month window?

You don't need to worry about 20 links over 6 months. Even 10-20 per day would probably be okay; as long as they're quality links, it should not be a problem.

You can get as much as 10 links per day. What you need is consistency. Also, be sure to only have related links to your site.

10 - 20 links in 6 months is not a link building strategy, it's nothing. Also, links is becoming less important.

You should have a look at LSI

I can't read the article you are referring to because I'm not a member, but I can tell you the idea of getting too many good links is crazy. Good websites started by good marketers can get hundreds or even thousands of links in a very short time. There is certainly no penalty in Google for being viral/successful. The only penalty is if you were doing something like FFA sites and getting massive crap unnatural links at once. No amount of good/natural links will hurt you in google. The more the better.

I can tell you that participating on link network type programs like digital point coop or link vault has been known to cause problems. In general, doing something that is automated can be destructive. Otherwise, you are probably fine.

It's always better to get links manually, takes more time but is well worth it.

It really depends on the quality of the links. If you get 1,000 footer links from 3 sites, yeah Google will see that as spammy. But if you get 1,000 link from a variety of blogs, news sites, authoritive topic hubs, you'll be doing just fine.

Absolutely right. Focus on quality, not quantity. If a blog breaks some major news story, gets on the frontpage of digg, and every blogger on technorati is linking back to them, Google isn't going to slam them (at least not intentionally, probably not at all).

If you go on getafreelancer.com and find some overseas "SEO" to build you 100 backlinks per month for $100, you can bet you'll have some SERP woes.

Surely quality links is not a big problem. But still, if you have a fresh site, google can get cautious for a while.

Maybe with time, when Google *sees* that all of the links are quality links you'll get back.

But the danger exists.

Matt Cutts described a case when one famous site was transferring the links, good links (and Google was informed about it in advance), Google's algo triggered red flag about too many links appearing within a very short period of time. And only after they saw that it was big, famous site - they cleared the flag.

Are you sure they will do it for your site if this site is brand new?

My experience.

100 links per week is ok. Surely quality links. With junk links you are just wasting your time.
